Cracked block symptoms

I found a rust color puddle underneath my van this morning. I cannot pin point the location that it is coming from. Could it be a cracked engine block?

Crack block problem would cause engine overheating problems check radiator see if radiator has a leak could have rust in radiator.check for leaking hoses check water pump see if you wet signs where pump leaking at weep hole. if you suspect crack cylinder head.you need to do a cylinder leak detector test using air pressure looking for stream of bubbles in the radiator.

If it is a cracked cylinder head, does it almost always cause the vehicle to overheat?

SOURCE: antifreeze/water leaking . puddle underneath van

May not be either. Does the van run hot? If it doesn't then the coolant when it is heated is going to the overflow reservoir and if that fills up then out the overflow line to the driveway or the garage floor but everything is O.K.

Any suggestions of what it could be without incurring hours of labor charges for a shop to look for the leak?

It's coming from your circulation vent, have it set on recirculation, that way the out side vent is closed, will cause carpet to mold underneath.

I have a 2004 town and country. I have had codes po440 on for about 9 months with no symptoms. Then po456 showed up. My van started surging wanting to take off after filling the tank. Then it would not...

code p0440 refers to evaporative emission (EVAP) system--malfunction===causes -hose connections--intake leak--EVAP canister
code po456 refers to the evaporative emission system--very small leak detected===causes --mechanical fault--hose---EVAP pressure sensor. The cracked hos may be the fault but I would be looking at the canister for the fault.

Coolant Leak 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee 2WD 4.0L

the cooling system is a bit complex. but leaks are easy.
leaks tell you hey,IM busted fix me now.

don't burn up the engine with ignored leaks,
warping the heads is no fun or cheap... at all.
so what going on
well if you are running 50% antifreeze its good,
if running water bad,
i cant see your flood and judge that color. puddle.
the system is under 14psi pressure if cap is good.
top failure is the thermostat 7 year life is typ.

That pressure is your friend if you had looked
at the actual engine, hose and rad, with hood up
you could find the leak.
at any hose, RAD,engine block , manifolds.
Best is the get engine to 180f + normal temp
1: cold engine,
2: fill the rad(at cap off neck) full of 50% AF
cap back on. start in in PARK
3: get engine hot. 180f+ normal. means normal hot.
4: the system will go to 14psi pressure , normal.
4b: hose large feel hard, yup 14psi there.
5: now leaks happen when under pressure,(failed system)
6: we now look in all directions, of all parts seen below, top, bottom left right and under. yup , under
we then find the leak.
look for squirting,as that can make things wet that are NOT BAD. LOOK and you will find the leak
if totally confused
tow the car to a service shop, ASE rated, best.

It could be lots of things, when experienced them all one tends not to guess.
this is an inline 6, one of the more easy engine
to work on, 2.5L even more easy but is a cut down, I6
look at the head gasket seam for leaks 4 sides.
and all core plugs, in view. for leaks.

those are external leaks , internal a whole other long story.

How do i tell if the block is cracked or a freeze plug needs replaced in a 1993 honda accord?

Overheating and loss of coolant is a hint. Cracked blocks are very rare, cylinder head leaks are not.

2004 pontiac grand prix smell radiator fluid coming from air vents and puddling under car

take the car to a radiator specialist shop and have a pressure test done on the cooling system
that will reveal leakage points
most likely from rusted out welsh plugs in the block or head/s

Drove through a puddle, power steering out and temp gauge on high, battery light on

I've seen it happen many times on the older Caravans, if you hit a really deep puddle, the splash can knock the accessory drive belt off of its pulleys. You can just gently pry the belt back on, consult a service manual for detailed installation directions.

After driving home from work, found a huge puddle of oil in my garage floor, ( apparently it happend that morning ), Checked my oil, none on the dipstick ! There is oil all over the coolant bottle,...

if it is coming from up top it might be the cam cover or the seal at the front-put in enough oil to read it on the dip stick and start it up, if it is that bad it should be obvious

Came home today and after a few hours noticed a large puddle of tranny fluid under the van. Followed it down the driveway and a little ways down the road. Two very noticable lines on the road leading into...

It's likely rusted out transmission cooler lines. Only way to tell is to take a look under it. Might be able to see some of the line by opening the hood.

Sounds like you have a possible hole in your floor, get your vehicle up on a hoist and check for rust and symptoms of holes or cracks. Sounds like your floor is giving out.
