Smoke from 95 Camaro steering column

I occasionally see a little stream of smoke coming from the steering column on my 95 Camaro. I think I smell something like plastic burning, but that may be my imagination. Everything seems to work. Nothing seems hot to the touch. What could this be and is it dangerous?

I have not seen the smoke now for about a week, with daily driving. Am I in danger? Can't afford to go for repairs unless really necessary.

Where ever there's smoke, there's fire. This could be the multifunction switch arching and burning the lubrication in the assembly. Multifunction meaning, one switch that operates the turn signal wipers, cruise etc.

2004 chevy subruban- While driving I noticed a little bit of smoke coming up through the hazard light switch at the top of the steering column. Any ideas?

The smoke will be an over heating wire from a short in the steering column. Take it to an auto electrician and have it checked out

My girl said she smelled something burning and actually so a little smoke comming from the steering column area? What do you think?

Hi,
Has anything stopped working? Like the indicators, horn.
If any of these have stopped working then it could have been a short in the wiring, or it could be the horn contact which has grease on it, it arced causing the grease to burn a little.

Hope this helped

Engine smoke and smell

You have a bad head gasket. So far the leak is not so bad but will eventually reach the oiling openings in the gasket so watch out for that. Change them as soon as you can

I own a Chevrolet lumina two door year 1990.Why would I get smoke coming out of the steering column? Where you push to get the horn to operate it gets very warm. seems i had this trouble before but...

One problem I have had with smoke coming from the steering column is from the turn signal switch. The contacts get worn and for some reason it smokes and also gets hot!!!
Replace the turn signal switch and this should fix the problem.
