I have a 2003 nissan xterra and when I crank it up a loud knocking noise can be heard I do mean loud. I took it to autozone a while back when the check engine light was on and they said I needed a new knock sensor and a oxy sensor. The noise is incredibly loud and I was told it could possibly be something to do with a gasket in the manifold or something? I don't know much about cars so if anyone could help it sure would be nice

I would have to be there to hear it. You may want to have it towed to a shop to get their opinion.
A knocking noise is usually a rod bearing or other internal engine part, and very serious damage can result.

SOURCE: 2001 Nissan Xterra Knock sensor Took

it is a single wire sensor under the lower intake manifold. they are common to fail. it is a pretty big job to do. if you have the upper intake manifold then you need to remove the fuel injection rail and remove the lower intake manifold requiring new lower gaskets and the coolant will also drain to this level. watch for coolant draining into the intake ports of the heads that can cause hydro-locking. once the lower intake manifold is removed you will see the sensor right on top of the engine block about 3/4 the way back. good luck....

SOURCE: nissan xterra knock sensor

It's the valley of the engine underneath the intake manifold. It's about an $800 job because the top of the engine has to come off. However, unless you have a supercharged xterra it shouldn't effect performance. Also, the knock sensor will not trip the check engine light, as it does not indicate a primary problem, so if your light is on you should have another code that should be fixed first.

Just changed timing belt on 2001 nissan xterra. I can hear a noise coming from intake cam and slight rubbing or grinding noise for distributor cap. Does this mean timing is off or belt is too loose /t

some of those distributors were pretty loud as far as rattle noise. could be distributor it self, but would not worry about it much until it actually completely dies. could run like this for long time.

2003 Nissan xterra...couple problems...timing belt just changed...knock sensor, crank shaft positioning sensor, distributor cap all changed...service engine soon light keeps coming on...took to...

Had same issue with (re: crank position sensor) on a 2002 Kia. Had all the same work done as you, only to find out with was one of those Kias with a manufacture defect in the block where the crankshaft keeper key slots to lock crankshaft in place in block. The block half of the slot had worn and the crank shaft itself kept slipping out of time. Is it throwing any codes? Gas pedal linkage may well just need a good cleaning and lubrication.

2003 Nissan Xterra - Fan noise when a/c on

No that doesn't sound like the problem, the fan clutch locks up to cool the engine off due to the increased load of the AC system on the cooling system, so it locks up and gets much louder. If it didn't lock up the engine would overheat.

How do you get the air conditioner belt on all 3 pulleys on a 2003 nissan xterra

one of the pulleys should be a tensioner. meaning you put a wrench or a socket on the bolt head in the center of the pulley and crank on it. slip the belt on all pulleys and then release the pressure on the wrench.

Loud engine noise or knocking when AC on

Have your air compressor for your air tested. Sounds like its bad.

CAR IS RUNNING ROUGH HAS 122K. MAKES LOUD NOISE

With that many miles, I think you need to replace the timing chain or belt. Also if you havent changed the plugs, plug wires, fuel filter and had the fuel injectors cleaned lately, this might help.

Nissan xterra 2003 car noisy problem

If it's the water pump there should be water leaking, if it's the steering pump the noise  would change as you turn the steering wheel left to right. If it's constant, it could be just old belt and bad idler and tension pully. Start buy praying a little water to the belt while the engine is running and if the noise goes away, the belt is in time to be chaged. If the noise is still there, then most likly it's the ilder bering or tension bearing. Good luck
