Question about 1999 Chevrolet Astro
HI..I HAVE A 1999 CHEVY ASTRO W 125,000 MI. VAN RUNS FINE ALL AROUND...BUT LATELY, WHEN I PUT AC ON..I NOTICE THAT MY IDLE SPEED IS TOO HIGH..TO WHEN I STOP,IT TAKES MORE BRAKING; ALSO..I ALMOST DON'T HAVE TO USE GAS PEDAL WHEN CRUISING. PLACE SWITCH TO AC OFF THEN IT GOES BACK TO NORMAL.(I LIVE IN AZ..SO IT IS GETTING WARM HERE) TT 3-26-09 THANK YOU!
It is perfectly normal for the idle speed to increase with the AC on. This is done to ensure that adequate coolant flow is available for the increased strain the compressor puts on the engine.
If the idle increase is too high, there is a safety problem. There is an idle adjustment that can be made to reduce RPM to factory specification when the AC is on.
