I purchased a 2009 Lexus IS 250 in January. Now has a little over 3,000 miles on it. I've complained repeated to the dealership service department about a ticking noise coming from the engine, and they continually tell me that this is normal. Normal? Have any idea what this could be? I have years of high "monthly payments" to make, and don't want a lemon.
Ok, i find it very hard to believe that this car came from the factory with an unset valve assembly and, i don't believe that it would have been delivered to the dealership with some bad injectors. I agree. this car smells like lemon pie and i would seriously think about practicing your states lemon laws. This car was dead on arrival unfortunately. there is nothing normal about a ticking sound coming form under the hood of a new car. I work on Lexus's and I've never herd any kind of ticking that was considered to be normal. Your intuitions are correct. i would return this vehicle immediately. I must say, if the ticking sound is very low range and is coming from the injector areas, this is normal but, if its very noticeable, its not.
Please rate and god bless.
The cause of the noise depends on whether the engine is running or not. Most engines tick in the garage after being taken for a good ride; it is simply the hot metal contracting as it cools, and the oil redistributing. While driving, the noise could be a sticky valve lifter, usually from accumulated dirt and other debris. Changing thr oil regularly might help, but more as a preventive measure.

I have the same issue on my new 2009 is250 AWD it has only 600 miles on it and I started hearing it right after taking delivery.
I have the EXACT same problem! I took it to the dealership several times and they can't figure out what is wrong with it! My car is a 2006! It might be the valve springs failing!
