SOURCE: Check Engine Light

It sounds like you may have a failing Mass Air Flow sensor, seems like Ive been seeing these tied together quite often. Its a little tricky but a good repair shop should be able to test this sensor. I dont want to tell you to replace it without having it tested cause they are a bit pricey but check around, you never know. Hope this give youu another idea where to look.

SOURCE: Check Engine Light - O2 Sensor - bank 1 running lean

you should have three oxygen sensors on your car, one for each bank of three cylinders; should be towards the Y pipe on each exhaust manifold. Additionally you should have one on the exhaust pipe before the cadilitic converter.

SOURCE: P0420 and check engine light

A p0420 code is set when the computer determines that the catalytic converter isn't doing it's job. In almost all instances that code can't set as a result of a bad o2 sensor so they probably didn't have to be replaced. The catalytic converter will need to be replaced, prefferably by an oem part. This can be pretty expensive and should be considered before purchasing the vehicle.

I have replaced a few bad converters on late model subarus in the past few years.

SOURCE: finding truoble codes for 1994 suzuki sidekick

if you live in the states... just go to an autozone... they will scan the codes for free. you may also be able to retrieve the codes by turning the key off and on 3 times and counting the amount of times the check engine light flashes. almost like morse code... when you reach code 55 that's the end of the codes. this does not always work.

SOURCE: 2000 hyundai accent code 302 misfire and slow responce o2 senser

Yep!.. Typical with an engine cylinder misfire. Inspect the plug and ignition wire, especially the insulator. If you see a 'christmas tree' pattern on the insulator, that's where your problem is.

2000 lexas rx 300, replaced the o2 sensors but engine lght and code is still 171,could there be a vacumn leak and the sensors are telling the computer [lean on left bank]?

I'd clean or replace the MAF sensor (Mass Air Flow). You can pick up a can of MAF sensor cleaner at most auto parts stores. Replace if cleaning does not work. Go from there...

How do I check for a vacumn leak on a lexas rx300,the year is a 2000,and if Ito code 171? have a leak could that cause o2 sesors to tell the computer

Well, code 171 is for the O2 sensor telling the computer the fuel mixture for bank one is too lean. It could be a vac leak, but it is only on bank one which would make the leak very isolated to that area of the engine. The problem could also be one or more of the injectors.

The "service engine" light stays on. I just had a

The only way to get the light to go off is to have the computer scanned for trouble codes. The trouble codes can be cleared with the scanner and the light will go out. If the light returns, then the computer has detected a problem and the scanner will have to run again to find the trouble code to see what needs repair.

2002 kia optima wont pass emissions. check engine light was on, then turned off. how to reset computer

Reseting the cpu will clear the check engine code however it will not fix the problem that caused the check engine light to come on. The most common cause of failing emissions is the O2 Sensor. This sensor will trigger the check engine light when it is failing. The good news is that the Oxygen senser is pretty cheap and is mounted on your exhuast so it is fairly easy to replace yourself. I suggest replacing your O2 sensor the clear the computer by disconnecting the negative battery terminal and leave it disconnected for a few moments, hook up the negative again and it's all clear. Take your car back threw emmisions and you should be all set.

Hope this helps
