The hard plastic sleeve on the shift linkage cable is broken. When I shift gears (auto tran.) the cable bends and the broken sleeve prevents the trans. from going back into park. I can reach under the truck and flip it into park manually.I cannot figure out how to get the sleeve off the cable to take to store and ask for a new one. This piece is also covered by a rubber accordian-type sleeve if that helps since I am not even sure that what I am talking about is called the shift linkage cable. Please help.
You cannot take the sleeve off. It comes with a new cable. Shift cable is enough for any parts man to know what you need. Generally this item is a dealer part.
It's about a 3...I generally tie a piece of wire to the end of the old one, then tie wire to the new one to pull it through the firewall. Don't know if the rubber grommet that prevents the firewall from cutting into it comes with the new one but likely you need to push old one out to get cable through. Attach exactly as the old one was.

If you had to rate the difficulty of changing this part on a scale of 1-10, how would you rate this?
I am a novice, but not scared to be elbow deep all day.
