SOURCE: Fuse location/ Cooling fan relay location

The relay for the cooling fan is located on the left side (north america drivers side) of the rad about half way down or near the top (may vary) there may be two relays or one, replace them both. As for the fuse location it should be under your dash (fuse panel) looks like a big silver fuse similar to a zippo lighter, it will be marked in fine print "engine fan".

SOURCE: cooling fans, radiator fans do not work anymore

Yes, there should be a fan motor. There should be a wiring harness in the middle of the fan assembly. This is the power for the fan motor.

The heating is intermittent on my vw passat 1999 1.9 tdi. I think it is a relay but don't know which one (only fuses are listed in the handbook and not relays). When heating is turned on it doesn't...

Probably not, make sure you get all the air out of the cooling system, which is called "bleeding". Too much air and no heat. This link might help...http://www.passatworld.com/forums/42-volkswagen-passat-b5-discussion/276774-timing-belt-cahnge.html

Cooling fans are not coming on, what could be the problem?

Either the temp sensor is bad, or the relay is bad. or the fan motor is bad. Or you have a blown fuse.
Look for fuse first.... To test if fan motor is bad disconnect the connector to the fan and jumper it to the battery.if it spins it's good. the other two. use a component locator to find their location and replace. they are inexpensive. Temp sensor is in the cooling circuit (radiator...maybe next to thermostat) the relay will be in a fuse box under the hood.

I have a 2003 jaguar x type 2.5 the cooling fans not working and over heats

cooling systems are the same for all vehicles, depending on years ,, in your case all you have is a fan, relay, and sensor, controlled by a circuit with a fuse, so , always check fuses first, if bad replace,, if not, unplug the fan at the connector,, use a jumper wire to supply the fan with 12 volts direct from the battery ,, if it starts, its not the fan, if it doesn't the fan needs replacing, if that checked out to be good,, backtrack to the fan relay, ( usually the problem) locate it in the under the hood fuse box, it will be listed on the tag on the underside of the fuse box cover ( or in the owners manual itself) you should have a couple of the same relay in this box,, ( Jaguar uses the same relay for a number of items) locate the one for the fan, and switch it out for one that runs a system you know is working, start the vehicle,, and let it run until the thermostat opens,, watch the temp gauge don't let it move up to high. soon after , the fan should start , if by now the system isn't working, its going to normally be a short in that circuit, and would have to looked at by a trained professional with knowledge in electrical circuits

Air conditioner in my 2004 volkwagon passat blows cool for a few minutes than blows warm. I had dyed ran through for leakes, recharged and filled with freon and that didn't seem to fix it. Help

You need to check and see if the cooling fan (electric) on the radiator is coming on. If this fan does not come on the high side pressure will go over 400psi and turn off the compressor until the press. drops. either the cooling fan motor is bad, the cooling fan relay or the fuse for the cooling fan relay. you can check the cooling fan by removing the cover of the power steering reservoir and pulling the wiring harness out from under the bracket. the fan has two wires in its connector, one red and one brown (there may be a tracer color on either one) these two wires are heavy gauge, like #10. unplug the harness and feed power to the connector on the fan side and see if its spins. If it works your problem is probably the fuse or relay. If it doesn't it may be seized or stuck or burned out. Reed, Aquidenck Motors
