I will be driving on freeway at 60 mph and the rpms will drop to zero.
THE CLUSTER AND THEHARNESS PLUG IS TO BLAME.OR ACTUALLY LET ME SAY THE THIN RIBBON CABLE. I HAD SAME PROBLEM WITH MINE.
Hey, The problem is NOT a crankshaft sensor or a TPS sensor. It is most likely the distributor. If it is not givin you a check engine light or shooting a code then its is your distributor. This just happened to my 2000.. how many miles you got on it, you like it? I got it 2 weeks ago, then on the highway it seemed to lose the response from the accel. But it would sometime drop back into gear and I could drive for another 20 second and then it was dead. So let me know if this helps....

Does the engine stall or is the gauge just dropping out?
