I get a loud bang noise at low speed and sometimes turning. I was told my strut mount needs replacing. The mount is approx $95.00 Can. I'm planning on replacing both.

Where is the power steering pump 97 geo tracker

97 geo tracker is not equipped with power steering. they where made so light that they just have steering assist which doesn't require power steering fluid or anything else. you will notice that when vehicle is parked or at slow speeds steering wheel is hard to turn. this is perfectly normal its just not power steering.

My 2002 chevy tracker 120,000 miles. steering became tight in spots and got worse. I replaced the power steering pump. it made no difference. what can it be?

It could be the rack, bad tie rod ends, etc. Are you sure there is enough fluid in the system. If it's getting worse, you need to have a mechanic look at it. You don't want to lose steering when you are driving down the road.

In my 2000 chevy tracker 4x4 the steering gets stiff at times

have some one start your car and turn the wheel back and forth and have them tell you when it gets tight. Then look for anything getting hung up on the steering arm, or anything at all

Rubbing noise sounds like it's coming from steering column

I have owned about 15 cars so far. ALL of the Chevy vehicles had developed problems with the ball joints / ball bearings. The most recent one was the one where I heard the rubbing noise. Unfortunately the front tire almost totally came off. It turned out to be the ball joints / ball bearings & the pinion. cost a couple thousand to fix. Get it checked. I saw another Chevy & that driver was NOT so lucky - their tire completely came off.
