It could work, for a while. The gasoline could speed up the aging of the rubber. Using vegetable oil works too. So does spray silicone lube. Just about anything that will stay on the rubber for more than a few weeks.
Testimonial: "I tried spay on lubes, silicone and the like. Those didn't even make a difference. What causes the noise? It is more than one thing. It makes noise on an up and down motion and when I turn the steering wheel. Seems to come from all over. Thanks"
Petroleum will rot bushings, you may consider a car wash with and undercarriage sprayer and see if noise goes away. This may indicate a bushing problem if noise goes away. If not, ball joint probably.
Testimonial: "Is the root cause of the noise fixable? Replacing parts, etc"
SOURCE: Driver's window squeaks when it gets cold outside.
I finally got sick and tred of my driver's window today. I removed the door panel and water shield and inspected and tested. Although the noise we are all experiencing seems to be coming from the glass track, if you feel the center guide that the glass follows, you should find the noise is coming from this guide. I could feel the vibration. There is not much room for adjustment but there was sufficient room to move the glass on the guide bracket and relieve the binding. Mine is smooth and quiet for the first time since I bought it. A relatively easy fix. no sprays, no lubricant just eliminate the binding.
