I have a 1994 jeep Cherokee that dies while driving and starts right up. Now it's chugging while it picks up speed. When turned off for awhile it starts back up and stops chugging. I never know when either will happen. Also, the NEW catalytic converter gets red hot. Crank sensor, plugs and tps sensor all recently replaced, everythings been gauge tested. Mechanics are stumped. Any ideas?
if the converter is rattlin then it needs to be replaced because the element inside is broken. if the jeep still does not run try removing the catalytic converter to see if the restriction is too much. should start if the converter is restricted. if it doesnt maybe its whatever caused the converter to go bad in the first place

It could do that with a bad switch if it was making poor contact before it disconnects, but that really sounds a lot like the fuel pump is going bad...they overheat and start to bind up, then stop...once cooled down they work just fine till it again gets hot enough to do the same thing all over again. I really hate doing this online because in real life, I'd be doing tons of testing instead of making "educated guesses"

Sounds like the ignition coil is getting bad.
Engine stall or RPM fluctuates
at idle.
This problem is commonly caused by a dirty automatic idle speed control valve and throttle valve. Buy a can of throttle valve cleaner (do not use carburetor spray cleaner!) from NAPA or Carquest (made by CRC chemicals) and spray it into the air intake while the engine is running, use up about 1/2 the can, engine will try to stall hold the speed up, shut it down and let it soak for 30 minutes, restart and blow out the remaining fluid, shut it down and disconnect the negative battery cable for 5 Min's to reset the base idle control
