Hey, I'm a brand new driver, just got my license and only have limited knowledge about the car (although I have done a decent amount of research on it). My older brother gave me his '87 MC SS a few days ago and I've already noticed some things that caught my attention. It's completely stock with many replaced parts. It has also been a daily driver since 87.
When I start the car from a cold start it makes a VERY loud squeak, I'm assuming that it's the belt, but from my understanding if there was something wrong with the belt wouldn't it make this sound during every start up and acceleration? I'm not sure, but please enlighten me :)
Also, it seems like when I floor it, it randomly decides when to fully accelerate. Sometimes it'll go right away, but other times it seems to take forever unless I take my foot off the gas and put it back on.
Thanks for your time and please, if you can, try to explain solutions in common car knowledge, as I don't know every detail about the car, haha.
If its carbureted, it needs a carb adjustment
as far as the squeal, its most likely the belts
by loosening the component at the top of the belt drive (alternator) and using that to retension a new belt.
no prob, any more questions, feel free to reply!
you dont need windows, but probablpy just the run channels and weatherstripping

Have you checked your water pump? An easy way to check is to look at the back of the water pump, there is a small hole in the back, if water is leaking out of it(just small drops),that could very well be the problem.Otherwise, your belt may be too loose, or, too tight.Good Luck! I hope this helps you.

Yes, it is carbureted, so i'll look into that. And how would I fix the belts?
Thanks.
Ahh, I see, thank you.
Ah, interesting. I'll check that tomorrow.
Also -- I can't believe I forgot about this, but I also noticed a very very annoying sound when driving around 80+ MPH, it literally sounds like a "beep" that progressively gets worse with speed, but when I take a look at the notification lights, nothing is lit up, so all I can assume is that it's wind, but I'm not sure where exactly from.. it could be something to do with the front windshield because my side windows tend to get pushed down from high wind speeds and eventually allow wind to enter the car.. so maybe all of this could be a sign that I just need new windows all around? I'm not sure.
