You didn't say if you have the straight 6 or v 6.But i'll give the order for both.
The 4.9L straight 6 is 1-5-3-6-2-4----------- distributor rotor turning clockwise, and #1 plug is the first plug.
On the 3.0 and 4.2 V6 engines is 1-4-2-5-3-6-------#1 plug is the first plug on driver side---- facing engine.

I have a 2001 ford taurus ses with a 6 cyl 3.0L DOHC engine. Getting error codes P0304,P0305 and P0306 from check engine light. Light alternates between flashing and steady. Lots of hesitation and...

Codes say Cylinder 4, 5 & 6 are not firing. This could be a spark issue or a fuel issue or a mechanical engine failure. Is compression zero? Did they use a compression tester?

I need the correct firing order diagram for a 1982 ford f150 351 windsor please help at least a link to a site

The firing order is ( 1 - 3 - 7 - 2 - 6 - 5 - 4 - 8 )

The distributor rotor turns COUNTERCLOCKWISE

The marked # 1 position on the distrubutor cap faces to the REAR and slightly towards the drivers side

The engine cylinders / spark plug locations are numbered :

firewall

4 - 8

3 - 7

2 - 6

1 - 5

front

If someone has altered the disstributer, pull #1 plug, put finger over hole, turn engine over until compression on that cyl, line up timing marks (ball park only) and rotor will be pointing at the correct terminal for #1 cylinder plug wire connection, in the cap.
