These doors/flaps are vacuum actuated and apparently only the one has no vacuum to it to actuate it, meaning that one has a vacuum line disconnected from the actuator. Just find the loose vacuum line and put it back on. It will then close with the others and done. Otherwise, for now, just stuff a towel in the one opening where the heat is coming out. That's a temporary fix but will work till you can get to the real fix.

That is correct...How to correct it will take some disassembly if you can follow instructions and sorta good with tools and have some nerve then get a Bently Service Manual on your BMW... It will be the best 100.00 you spend on the car, If you are frugal then look for a used copy on E-Bay.....

the motors are located behind the dash in what is called the IHKA unit. The most likely cause of this problem, however, is a bad temperature sensor. These are located in the center console behind the dash. To get to them you must remove the carpeted 'kick panels' on both the drivers and passengers side which cover the transmission tunnel. There is one for each side.

check hot water is circulating through heater rad by feeling the inlet and outlet pipes as they come thru the bulkhead if ok it sounds like there is a control panel prob, if hot water isnt circulating make sure cooling system is bled properly, and you could try backflushing the system.

Hi bensarabia,
This condition is usually an indication that the a/c refrigerant level is low. The driver's side will always get heating and cooling first. I would recommend having the refrigerant level checked and also having it leak tested.
