86 Ford F350 Cold Start Problem

I have a Ford F350 V-8 351 2x4 with 142000 miles. The truck has been maintained fairly well for its age. Recently, the truck has had problems starting when cold. I have to pump the gas several times then turn the starter for 8-10 seconds to get it to fire. Then to stop it from stalling, I have to continuously hold down the accelerator to keep it from stalling.

Once, it has warmed up from my keeping my foot on the accelerator for a 1-2 minutes, it will idle and drive normally. Once the truck sits for several hours, the problem comes back again.

Does it have a carburetor or is it fuel injected? In 1986 it could be either way. It sounds like a carburetor with a choke problem.

I have a 2004 Ford F350 when I turn the starter I get a ticking then nothing, what is wrong and how do I fix it?

The ticking sound usally means low voltage, check to make sure enough volts in battery, cables tight ,no corrosion on cables or battery!
Cold weather usally test your cold cranking amps in your Battery if you can jump off your vehicle and it will start replace your battery!

What engine oil type is recommended for an F350, 2001 with 189,000 miles?

You still need to run what the manufactorer states regardless of the age and mileage. You did not mention gas or diesel, assuming gas then it should be 5-20 or 5-30

My f350 blows the abs fuse fairly quickly. Some

check wiring to all wheel sensors if ok, then replace fuse and scan computer before it blows, this will give a genarel idea of what is wrong. good luck.

What service / maintainance is necessary or recomended for a 2000 Mustang GT with 125000 miles on it and has had no major maintainance done to it ?

Would be on safe side and go for full service if you have no/little service history. would be fair on a motor thats covered that amount of miles.

1992 F-350 Dsl - very hard to start when cool

are you using cold temperature engine oil!
if not, try changing oil for cold temperature!

hard starting happens due to the cold temperature, air pressure is low during this season so compression inside the engine is low resulting to hard starting!

make sure that all your glow plugs are working.

Rough idle at start up

This is common and there is likely nothing to fix. It gets worse as the oil gets dirtier.
