Hi the sensor is in with the timing belt. You will have to remove the timing belt cover and belt to put a new one in. You will also see a small gold metal rotor that spins on this sensor also replace that or it will trash the new sensor.

WHERE IS THE CRANK SHAFT SENSOR LOCATED

The 2002 Santa Fe came with three (3) possible powertrains (engines). The 4 cylinder, and two different V6 engines - i.e. 2.4L 4 cylinder, the 2.7L V6 and the 3.5L V6.

The crankshaft position sensor on the 4 cylinder and the 3.5L V6 are in the same place - Front Crank Shaft behind the pully (behind the timing belt cover.

On the 2.7L V6, the Cranshaft Position Sensor is located in the engine block (Left Hand Side)
near the flywheel (adjacent to the LH (Bank 2) exhaust manifold.

Note: Left Hand Side means the radiator side (front) Bank 1 is the firewall side.

What does a crankshaft sensor do? 04 hyundai santa fe 3.5

The crankshaft sensor is responsible for sending a signal to the PCM (powertrain control module) it tells the computer what cylinder to fire at the coresponding time, it lines up with whats called a trigger wheel on the crankshaft as the crankshaft spins there are small notches cut into the trigger wheel when 1 of the notches lines up with the crankshaft sensor a magnetic field forms between the trigger whell and the sensor and the computer charges the coil for that corresponding cylinder, once the magnetic field dissappears when the notch passes by the sensor the computer fires the spark plug for that corresponding cylinder if you have a bad crankshaft position sensor you will more then likely have a stalling condition due to weak spark or if the sensor is totally gone your engine will just crank and not start due to the spark plugs not having any spark being delivered to them......

My crankshaft position sensor is either loose broken or something

On the 2.4 liter 4-cylinder, it's located at the front of the engine at the crankshaft,.. on the 2.7 V6, it's located on the block near the transmission on the left hand side (radiator side), .. .and on the 3.5 V6, at the front of the engine at the crank shaft.

2003 santa fe 2.4l stalled going down street will not restart

was the engine lite on before it quit? maybe there is a code in the system that will direct to the cause area. my first guess with those symptoms would be a crank position sensor.
