H Colin, The brake proportioning valve adjust the amount of effort required for maximum efficiency with different loads in the vehicle. The brakes in most vehicles are proportioned for approximately 60% front brakes and forty percent rear. The valve makes small adjustments to braking between front and rear. Regards john

SOURCE: did brake job on 1992 chevy pickup, how do I release proportional valve?

some times you get an air bubble and you just cant get it to pass. you can work very hard and still not get it to bleed. snapon sells a bleeder system that sell for around $500 but i can tell you how to build one for under $20. if interested. but your answere is to back bleed the system from the farthest away wheel first. and then your peddel will come back.

SOURCE: 1989 chevy caprice proportioning valve

The proportioning valve can be mounted on the frame or just off of the master cylinder. Yes, you can buy aftermarket and no you don't have to stay OEM on it.

What is a proportioning valv

A Proportioning valve is required on vehicles that have disc brakes on the front wheels and drum brakes on the rear wheels. Disc brake pads are normally in contact with the disc, while the drum brake shoes are normally not in contact with the drum. ... The proportioning valve reduces the pressure to the rear brakes while keeping more pressure on the front brakes. Thus, the front brakes do more stopping than the rear.

I have brake fluid leaking, when i press the brakes, out of the bottom of what i think is the height sensing proportioning valve

it is a load proportioning valve that adjusts the proportion of brake pressure according to the load on the vehicle
best to get a new unit and replace it then bleed the air out of the brakes

What does the proportioning valve do?

Assuming you're talking about the brake system...
The proportioning valve is on the rear brakes only when the vehicle has rear Drum Brakes.
What it does is limits the brake line pressure to the rear brakes during normal stopping. This way the rear brakes don't lock up and cause the vehicle to fish tail or spin.
When you press the brakes harder than normal, the proportioning valve opens more to allow more line pressure so you're able to stop faster.

Rear brakes lock when press brake pedal.

get is serviced.

its stuck in , low bed (loaded) mode. the lever is or parts in side

stuck in full load mode.

and guess what, if you bypass the valve, what will happen

the rear brake will lock, going fast and if on wet or worse roads. 10x worse. its there for a reason. to lower the brake pressure with no pickup bed load. or not heavy trailer tongue weight.

ever consider the rear brakes are bad. first. and not the valve.

service the rear shoes and slaves.

then check the bypass.

Does the truck still have the height sensing brake line bracket and line connected into the prop valve?

What is a brake proportion valve function

Front brakes require different fluid pressure than the rear, as more of the braking is done by the front brakes, because of vehicle weight shifting forward during braking, etc.

Proportioning valves are used in cars to reduce the fluid pressure to the rear brakes, to reduce rear wheel lock-up.

1975 gm pick-up need to bleed the proportional valve

All bleeding is done at each caliper and wheel cylinder. The proportioning valve has no bleeder. The proportioning valve makes the front brakes engage before the rears do to prevent the rear brakes from causing a sideways skid.

How to bleed brakes on 98 regal, I changed rear brake lines but I don't think fluid is going thru the proportioning valve or ABS. I am used to the older brakes ( 70's and down.)

sometimes you can tap on the proportioning valve while someone pumps the brake if nothing breaks loose you may have to replace the valve.

Villager GE 95 liquid escape in a brake system

It is a brake load sensoing valve that applies more pressure to the rear brakes as you load the vehicle. It is $375 from tascafordparts.com. Get one from the junk yard or just bypass it.

usually just the lines are leaking and can be replaced.
Valve, Brake Load Sensor Proportioning The Villager has a brake load sensor proportioning valve (2B547) that is mounted on the vehicle frame and connected to the rear axle housing (4010) . When the vehicle is unloaded, the brake load sensor proportioning valve closes and partially reduces hydraulic pressure to the rear wheel cylinders (2261) . As the vehicle is loaded, the weight presses down the back end of the vehicle on the rear springs (5560) . This activates the brake load sensor proportioning valve which opens and supplies more hydraulic pressure to the rear wheel cylinders . When the vehicle is fully loaded, the brake load sensor proportioning valve is fully open and provides full hydraulic pressure to the rear wheel cylinders .

Where is the proportioning valve on a 2000 chev blazer and can it be reset

Proportioning valve for the brakes? rear brakes? rear brakes are located on the rear end, for all brakes(front to rear proportion) is usually part of or under the master cylinder, and if either are bad then you need a new one, there is no resetting them
