Well you are going in the right direction remove the four screws from the mode door actuator and move the door manually and see if it move freely if so move the selector switch on the dash and with the motor unbolted see if it moves properly don't forget you may need to apply a little resistance with your finger to find a problem with the actuator. good luck but both the mode door them selves and the mode door motors are vary common problem.good luck

02 navigator front heater blows cold air

Sounds like the blend door or blend motor is not functioning/opening. This door allows the heat/cold air to come in by adjusting open, closed or anywhere in-between for temp. Start there. They are usually vacuum controlled and mounted under the front dashboard near the knee board.

iwould check the selector motor, and also replace the thermostant, start with the stant first, the selector motor is what runs the door for hot or cold the motor is a common problem,if the temp gauge is showing a quick warm up temp then its the selector motor, if it takes a while to reach operating temp then replace the t-stant,also make sure the coolant is full in radiator, check when cold or warm, dont open when hot, hope this is helpful.

Ac blows out cold on dravers side hot on passenger side

If the vehicle has dual zone climate control, either the air mix door is broken or the motor that controls it is broken. It may also have the vacuum control system, which could mean a loose vac line or a broken diaphram. If its not a dual zone, then the air should be the same temp both sides as the mix door is one piece. It sounds like a mode door controller is bad, either case.
