Hi. After noticing that my break lights were not working on my 94 Ford Ranger, I replaced the brake light switch. However, the switch is not engaging correctly when the brake is depressed. I can manually depress the pressure plate on the switch and also wiggle it to activate the brake lights, so I know the switch, fuses, and wiring are OK. I am thinking that maybe there is some part of the assembly that is missing. However, the brass flat arm that makes contact with the brake switch appears to fit tightly against it. I am very perplexed! Anyone have any suggestions?
Do you still have the old switch and are you sure that the hitch pin is in place holding the switch in the right position there might have been a nylon bushing on the brake pedal shaft that's missing if you press the pedal while looking at the switch and it partially moves this is the problem that switch is not to move and the rod should press in the switches plunger which activates the lights I'm going to try to find a photo watch for the next post
O.K. below is what's supposed to be there you can go to ford parts.com and search your truck this is in electrical switches as you can see if any of those nylon bushings are missing the switch will move and the plunger will be out of line with the contact on the switch so follow the diagram and the solution will become evident good luck Stephen

Replace the bubs and/or check the wiring connections with a electrical tester for power.

Hello
With regards to the brake lights, you need to replace your brake switch located under your brake pedal.
With regards to spongy pedal, sounds like air in the line you need to bleed the brakes via the bleed nipple on each caliper and check your brake fluid.
hope this helps.
Thanks
SOURCE: Need to find fuse box inside cab to replace brake light fuse. Brakes don't light up when depressed.
Most fuse boxes are on or near the kick panel (left side of vehicle) under the steering wheel. Some (additional) fuse boxes are under the hood,
