SOURCE: Mitsubishi Galant 2000 Glove Box Lock

First off you will need your key to the lock and a 1/8" flat blade screw driver.  Notice that your lock only turns 1/4 rotation, after doing this procedure you will be able to turn the lock an extra 1/4 turn counter clock-wise (when viewed from the front of the latch).

Turn the lock so it is vertical (perpendicular to the latch itself (counter clock-wise)).  Turn the latch around so you can view the back and the lock is to your left.  Above the lock there is a slot that you can put your screw driver into (not the indention in the metal).  You need to insert your screw driver and listen very closely, you should hear your screw driver hitting the metal latch.  Once you push the latch down with your screw driver, turn the lock another 1/4 turn with your key from the front (counter clock-wise looking from the front).

Once the lock has been turn a full 1/2 turn, you should be able to push the lock out from the back of the latch.

To put the lock in the new latch, you have to have your key in the lock.  Put the lock in the latch with the one pesky keep latch facing the handle used to open the glove compartment.  Once the lock is in the new latch, turn clock-wise until you can't anymore (1/2 turn).

Its possible taht you have any linkage problem there; first check the FUSE, use this Ford-Explorer Owners Manual to know the specific location.

The lock mechanism on the glove box broke. I purchased a new assembly but I need to remove the cylinder from the old assembly and put it in the new one and reinstall on the glove box

it is conceivable to remove the screws under the glove box assembly to help gain access to the lock mech. If this is not possible you might need to drill the lock. I am assuming you r not able to open the box. I f you are able to open it then replacing it is a breeze.

Glove box latch is broken cant open it want to replace it but cant remove it

Guess what? Volkwagen makes you buy the entire glove box assembly, including lock and door in gray, black or beige for around $145. No way to fix the latch because it is encased in sealedand glued plastic. Good luck! Mine just broke, also.

Glove box, LOCK BROKEN IN LOCK POSITION

If the glove box is anything like mine it is a modular piece assembled with screws.... let them break the handle.. get a replacement first from a junk dealer and have the broken part swapped out. Its like a seat belt catch in my 97 deville. The glove box in mine flopped open and the catch had broken and fell down the door of the glovebox itself. The whole door is assembled with philips screws and should be easily removed and a new latch put in.. whoever does it should not cost more than 50.00 in labor MAYBE unless you have a friend that would do it for a beer. I saw a complete glove box on ebay for 40.00 shipping ontop of that .. i saw the latch for 20.00 +shipping.
