2007 jeep compass makes noise sounds like in the engine area, the check engine light is not on until the gas gauge gets down to about a quarter of a tank and then goes away when I fill the tank. The noise seems to increase upon acceleration and goes down when I reach highway speed. I checked the oil and it was fine. Not sure what it is.
Check your tire pressure, if the pressure is to high or too low it can cause that noise also check the wear on the tires if it’s been a long time since you have had them rotated and balanced they may have worn.

The flashing light indicates you have a big misfire that could damage the catalytic converter.. Being you were going uphill (under high load) this would indicate an ignition issue. You may have a bad coil or wires or a bad spark plug. The reason you could only go 30mph was because the computer was put in limp mode. This is a stratagy to prevent excessive damage to components. , Get it checked out ASAP

u Have a problem with the oil sending unit. The sensor is located beack right side of the engine block. Take out the switch and make sure u have good oil PSI. Should be 6 psi at idle and around 50 at 4000 RPM. If the presure is ok replace the switch they are very cheap about 20 bucks. Please rate.

You will have to get the error code before the engine light goes back off. You can do this by inserting the key into the ignition, then turning the key key to the on position three times with in 5 seconds. Remember this is the on position no the start position. Once you have done this the odometer will show the error codes briefly. They will look like this "P0202, P1225, P1400. Make sure you write them down because they can go pretty quickly. Once you have the codes go to the link listed below. It will give you a brief description of what the codes mean. If you need any thing else just let me know and I'll try to help.
The first link will have jeep specific codes, the second will be codes generic to all manufacturers. Just scroll down until you see the code listings.
Good luck.
