1997 chevy malibu brake problem

1997 chevy malibu ls v6 3.1L brakes are spongy when depressing and hard to stop. I recently changed the brakes out, bled the lines and this is occuring. I also have had the ABS light on for about 4 months now, not sure if this is related or not. Friends have told me that it could be the ''brake booster''? Your help is greatly appreciated.

where is the abs unit? Or is this done while bleeding the brake lines from the front brakes? I'm sorry for being ignorant on this.

I have a 1999 chevy silverado 1500 4x4 and it's makes a humming sounds from the front every time I try and put on breaks

Hi Kenneth:
If this problem has only started since the brakes were serviced, I would be suspicious that they may not have been bled. That would mean there may be air in some of the brake lines or cylinders. When you push on the brake pedal, does it feel "HARD" or "SPONGY" ? Spongy would make me more suspicious of air in the lines..
Cheerfuls.

My 2004 Chevy malibu brake lights only come on if at complete stop

Your brake pedal has a switch mounted in conjunction with it. It's located above the pedal, under the dash on a bracket. The switch has a threaded collar on it and can be adjusted by loosing the 2 lock nuts.
The switch is deactivated when plunger is depressed ( opposite from a traditional switch)
When you step on the brake pedal the plunger is released (rasied) and the circuit is energized.
If your switch is out of adjustment the plunger will not fully rise during light braking, causing the brake light failure.

Brakes on a 2005 rangers pads and rotors changed 10 months ago. brakes stop car but after the stop the brake pedal gets spongy and depresses further and makes a noise

You more than likely have a master cylinder going out. Also check the backs of your wheels (front and back) for fluid indicating a leaky cyclinder.

I own a 2007 Chevy Malibu LS. Recently my brakes have been 'squealing' and my steering wheel has always vibrated when I press on the brake. I thought it was my brake pads and rotors but I just had them...

checked out replace pads /and cut rotors if pads are glazed over [film u were told ] the pads are smoothed over from getting to hot -riding brake or stop and go traffic lot of down hill braking which ever was the cause ur brakes got over heated and glazed over and are very smooth also the heat transferred to the rotors also warped them when u get steering shake when braking 90 percent of the time its warpage in rotor and the only way is to have them removed and put on a cutter to check for out of round also abs doesnt cause this abs [anti-lock braking] is designed to transmit a pulse to ur brakes when it senses a wheel is about to lock up or skid u would feel the pulse in ur brake pedal not ur steering

I changed the front pads on my 97 Sebring convertible. Also put on new rotors, and changed the calipers. My car bounces slightly, and if I apply the brakes hard, they become spongy. I have bled them off as...

Spongy means air present in the hydraulic system,I recommend check and recheck all of the brake system areas where air could enter(master cylinder, fittings, calipers, etc.)and bleed the entire system again.
Good luck !

Take the rear brake adjustes out as far as you can get them, locking up the wheels, then back them off just enough to get them to turn, you should get you pedal back.

Spongy brake pedal

I have a 2001 Chevy 1500 4 X 4 that recently had all new pads, rotors, and calipers installed. Since then my brake pedal goes almost to the floor before I get any brakes. I took it back to the shop and they bled the brakes with no better results. I bled them also with no results. I took the truck back and they installed a master cylinder with no results. It's now at the Chevy dealer and they say it's normal - BS! I had good brakes before I had all of the brake parts replaced, no one can figure it out. If you have a load in the truck or if you tow anything you better be looking at the ditch to avoid an accident. The original brakes would put you nose into the windshield and now I could stop it better the Fred Flinstone way. Anyone have an answer????????
