My speedometer's not working neither is my cruise control

Try going to a local Checker, Autozone or O'Rielys for a code pull. Sounds like a " vehicle speed sensor" problem.

You could have a faulty speedometer/odometer combination meter causing a false Vehicle Speed Sensor error.
My 1998 Sienna had the following symptoms:
- Speedometer and odometer failed intermittently
- The check engine light would come on and I would get a p0500 code in the OBDII.
- The cruise control would stop working at the same time the speedometer failed.
There is a speed sensor in each one of the tires and they feed the speed information to the ABS ECU. From the ABS ECU the speed signal goes to the speedometer/odometer combination meter, and from there it goes to the Engine Control Module and to the Cruise Control ECU. I could see a signal coming into the speedometer/odometer, but no signal going out. Replacing the speedometer/odometer combination meter fixed the problem.

i also have a 99v70.
As i was driving the car home 2 days ago in cruise control. Suddenly the speedo dropped to '0'. The cruise control quit and the abs, upshift arrow, and check engine light came on. The solutions is the 'abs control unit' From Volvo; 870.00
from Advance; 256.00 w/ core exchange. Its fixed all those dash issues.good luck

The speedometer is electronic and controlled by a micro processor, the needle is operated by a special DC electric motor called a "stepper" motor, this little motor can cause this problem as well as the Vehicle speed sensor on the transmission (see photo below), either part can cause the problem, the cruise not working would lead me to believe the speed sensor is defective, but you should have a Check Engine light on and a fault code for the sensor, do you have either? Autozone and others do the fault code test for free, ask for an OBD2 fault test. Here is the picture of the sensor I mentioned.

Hello. This tends to be all to do with the ABS. Some models have a reluctor ring on each cv joint near the wheel which looks like a castle moulding, but on mine there is a magnetic strip in the wheel bearing and mine corroded which reduced the signal. This caused the abs light and engine management light to come on. Without abs you cannot use the cruise control. It's not an expensive job to replace the bearing or to replace the cv joint if you have the reluctor ring but beware the dealers will try and sell you a whole drive shaft and this is not needed.

have the abs sensors removed and cleaned alot of times during brake service dust and contaminations can cause a faulty reading it may also have the speed sensor at the wheels if so the problem is probably with dirty sensors that will also cause cruise not to work

The brake and ABS light both come on when you are receiving no speed signal. Most likely the speed sensor in the top of the rearend is bad.

Its a faulty sensor switch on your brakes master cylinder. It leaks brake fluid into the wires that are plugged into it and causes a short in the circuit, resulting in a blown fuse that controls the AC, odometer, speedometer, cruise control, and ABS light to come on.
