SOURCE: BMW (e39 1999) eml and asc lights and in limp mode
Check the ABS brake sensors in your wheels, if they are not functioning properly. It will trigger the computer to engage the ASC auto stability control light as the asc uses the brakes to assist in control. I will also engage the EML engine management light to slow the rev point to limp mode

Hi badboyf6,
Limp mode can be activated by many things to numerous to list here so, if possible can you get a local mechanic to hook up an OBD lead to the ECU (computer thingy!) of the car and read the fault code.
From this reading he/she will be able to determine what has caused limp mode activation and depending what it is reset/cancel limp mode.
Gettin a fault code reading is quick and cheap to do, (even from the dealership!) and at least you will have more information to determine what is best thing to do next...
Hope this helps and good luck.
SOURCE: diagnoses : 2002 745i bmw ( hot-film air-mass flow senser )
Hot-film air mass sensor when diagnose say is damaged, replace it!!! Trouble when car will take up to 5.sec. is associated with this! Bank 1, the accumulated value of lambdasond the left side of the engine cylinders. While the problem is in the ignition at the 4th cylinder, Bank-1 data were then evaluated as poor. Allow change fourth ignition coil and the CAN mistake Dont look it! is an accidental fault! eventually allow for BMW servicing erase all the mistakes and make a new adaptation of the engine throttle body, and adaptation of the engine in to "0" setting
