Well, Gm couldn't sell any more geo metros so they renamed it the chevy metro. That didn't work too well so they renamed it the chevy aveo. Modern equivalent of the chevette. Research the Daewoo lanos, it is the same car under the skin.
You need to look up the programming codes for the remote. You can set it to where the doors lock but alarm does not activate. I am sure you can find it easily through Google.
You have a problem with the shifter. Common on the Aveo's. There's a switch on the shifter that wears out. When put in 'Park' it releases the ignition to remove the key. When that switch screws up it's not releasing the ignition. Replace the shifter. I'm a Chevy mechanic.
There is a solenoid under the cover where the shifter is. You need to replace it. You can get the part from a dealer and will take 30 mins to fix. In the meantime wiggle the shifter around while turning the key and it should work like that until you get the part.
There is a special socket for O2 sensors which allow the wires to stick out and not get twisted up. It's not expensive and available at most auto parts stores. Disconnect the sensor from the wiring harness, with the plug and then use the socket to remove and replace the new sensor. Re-connect electrical plug.
If the fuel filter is mounted inside the fuel tank at the pump it does not need replacing and is a permanent filter. All you have to do it follow the fuel lines from the fuel tank to the engine. If the filter is mounted in the fuel line you will find it.
I have the same problem with 06 Aveo the trunk door has broke on me three times the dealership told me the lever that opens it breaks well i had them fix it the first time cost me $100 then the second time they wanted me to pay $500 to install a whole new thing my husband glued it back together that lasted a little while then a friend looked at it and there is a little green piece that the bar goes into that is the part that breaks but sometimes they just don't assemble it right and thats what it was in my case so check that green piece and trade the pos in thats what I plan to do with mine the airbags malfunction two months after i get them fixed every time my advice never buy an Aveo!
