Hi from uk the rear brake calipers pistons have to be rotated and pushed backwards into the calipers fully so as to enable new pads to be fitted there is special tool for this to make job easy and if you check E BAY garage/tools and equipment pages there are numerous types and different prices dependant on makers ? however you can improvise/make a tool using a a 1/2 inch square drive socket and t/bar +short extension look at piton and you will see it has slots ? cut away an old socket to provide teeth to fit these slots ? then you can both push and rotate c/wise the piston back into caliper or you can buy the tool ? from motor supermarket if you have time ? hope this helps

remove tire remove caliper and pads with two bolts and adj emergency brake off all the way or untill rotor will come off .Replace shoes (if you don`t know how remove only one side and install other side the same then install remaining shoes.)If rotor or inside drum surface is rough turn or relace rotors. Adj brakes up (parking) and reinastall caliper.Pump brakes half way down only till good pedal not all the way down or the piston in master cylinder will go to end of stroke where all the gook is and you`ll replace master cylinder very shortly

Replacing disc brake on rear passengers side. How does the rotor come off ? I have the brake pads off but unable to get the rotor off????

Get the manual. Usually ther are 2 bolts holding the rotor in place. Once they have been removed, the rotor should come off pretty easy. I suggested the manual because some brake calipers require a special tool the compress the piston. If done improperly, you could damage the whole thing and have to replace it.

How do you change the rear brake pads on a mazda6 and do you need a special tool or can you get by without? 2002 model

jack up rear of car,put on axlestands/bricks,remove roadwheels, you will then be able to see what needs to be done to replace pads.no special tools required, but remember to smear back of pads with copperslip brake grease, stops em squeeking.(prise pistons apart with tyre iron)and remember to unscrew brake fluid cylinder cap to release any overspill,
