I have the Haynes repair manual 1987-2003 Jeep Wrangler with all of the schematics. Which wiring scematics do you need and maybe I can scan/email the pages, if this legal? Or can maybe answer questions you may have, keeping in mind I am NOT a mechanic but I can read plans/schematics

did you check the air filter? if the air filter is dirty, the mixture is automatic richer than normal. the ratio between air/fuel is changed. try this ant let us know.
Autozone.com has some great wiring diagrams. I looked and your Jeep seems to be there. Go to Vehicle Repair Guide>chassis electrical>wiring diagram. You may need to register, but I think it's worth it. I'm looking at the diagram for your vehicle so if you have any trouble finding it just post a comment and I will try to assist you.
The front axle connects 4wd by vacuum. check the vacuum hoses that run to the actuator. Pay close attention to the vacuum hoses running underneath the battery as battery acid can eat thru those hose easily. Good Luck.
The wire should go into the same harness as do the remainder of the wires from the switch. If you tell me which pin the wire attaches to in the harness plug I can tell you what it does/ The two center ones opposite the clip are for the starter.(Plug facing you, clip at the top, two center pins in lower row) Likely the wire you are looking at is to the starter relay But, if the reverse lights are on, make sure the neutral switch is adjusted properly before doing anything else...if it is, a contact inside the switch may be broken and bridging the reverse contacts.
