I opened the boot ( trunk ), using the handlever inside the car. The lever would not return to its initial position despite some manual persuasion!
When I look at the latch mechanism on the boot ( trunk ), it is jammed in the OPEN position. Have tried to (a) prise it closed (b) manouvre the cable : both without success!
Cannot secure the carboot. Cannot lock it independently either manually by using the external key or electronically. Also tried slamming it closed ( hoping it may release ).
Any suggestions please?

You need to replace the Latch assembly part thats located inside the trunk
Thanks
SOURCE: Trunk will not latch
try putting washers under the bottom catch to lift up slightly maybe not pushing latch up to lock in place

Sounds like the cable has broken on your latch!! and your trunk!! I would try putting your key into the rear hole and gettint the locking device to move around to see if you can get it to shut!!

the latch has come loose.. use scewdriver and adjust them to the point that it will close then make sure screws are tight

could be the spring release in the lever on the trunk itself. If you can hear the acuator locking/unlocking(that is all it's ment to do) then the spring release is the problem. you need to unbolt the latch from inside the trunk and once the trunk is open you can trace from there. I had the same problem due to a minor fender bender and I just fixed mine last week.
