Open the bonnet remove the black plastic over on top of the grill and this reveals the back of the grills so you can push themout from behind and not damage the paint.

Yes its very possible possible that valve damage may have occured when the belt failed.I would suggest that you reinstall a new belt and attempt to crank the engine.Theres a chance it that it did not bend any valves.If it does not crank then cylinder head will have to be removed for the repair.

Is injectors clean. Perhaps dirt in fuel. replace fuel filter
Air leakage at top air intake of manifold at ICV idle control valve. Two hoses inside this housing prone to perishing.
Throttle position sensor faulty.
Mass air flow sensor faulty.
ICV faulty or dirty. comon fault on older e36.
Havent done it yet but ICV is easy to clean according to internet. instruction available at bmw e36 blog. All off above can be tested by yourself according to manual.
