Timing issue my car ran perfect with no issues. went out after not driving fot 2 days and the battery was dead. I noticed I left my power inverter on and it drains my battery. I tried jumping it but no start. put it on slow trickle charge, still no good. then i go into diag mode with all fuses and relays. good fuel pressure NO SPARK. followed schematics to conclude proper signal to the distributor but no power out. So I changed my distributor and tried to take notice of position of rotor before removal of old one. installed new distributor which has one straight hole for install and one slotted. I put it back as the old one appeared and the car started right up but ran real junky and spitting like it was out of time so I took the plennum back off and egr tube to access it and adjusted the distributor, reinstalled everything so it would run and it runs quite better but still off. how can I accurately set the distributor without trial and error and taking the top off the engine everytime? would be great if it was possible to adjust while engine running but you cant even see the distributor much less loosen adjust and retighten.

SOURCE: 1997 Cirrus battery went dead. The car ran fine

These cars are known for having engine related electrical problems that can be difficult to track down. One dead sensor is sufficient to prevent start up .

It is possible that your problem had nothing to do with the jump start or battery replacement.

Without a full diagnosis anyone not able to test the vehicle will be guessing.

One thing I would do is to check your fuse panels for all engine related fuses such as fuel pump, ignition and fuel injection to ensure these fuses are sound.
Check all visible wiring carefully including your battery connections. Carefully disconnect and then re-connect the battery at both terminals.

Your best option is to have the car towed to a reputable repairer that is familiar with these cars so he can run a full check and isolate the problem.

Whether you have blown something in the course of jump starting the car is unknown.

In future, when jump starting these older vehicles always turn the headlights on and do not turn them off again whilst the vehicle is running until after the spare battery used for the jump start has been fully disconnected. Everything else should be off.

Testimonial: "Thank you very much for your quick and knowledgeable response. I knew I would end up taking it to the shop but I was hoping for that "magic bullet."

SOURCE: 1999 chrysler concorde. 131K mi.

Hello Kurtzuba.

Actually, although rare, this could be a computer issue.
The voltage regulator is built into the computer on your Concorde and may not be completing the circuit.

I'm not sure how you verified the alternator is good other than you removed it and had it tested.

To verify the problem is in the computer, find the orange/dark green wire that supplies power to the alternator.
This is fused power to the field. Verify it has 12.5 volts positive. If not, that will need to be repaired.

If it is OK, then find the dark green wire that also hooks to the alternator.
This wire leads to the computer which controls the amount of ground to regulate the amount of output from the alternator stator.
Attach a wire with an alligator clip to the dark green wire terminal on the alternator.
Attach a voltmeter to the battery.
Start the car and touch the other end of the attached wire for a few seconds (no more than a minute) to the NEGATIVE battery terminal.
If the alternator begins to charge you will need to verify the green wire is good to the computer.
If OK, replace the computer.

If you need more assistance with this issue, let me know here.
Thank you for using FixYa.

SOURCE: My 2000 300m has been sitting for 7 months without

There has to be a code store in the computer that will tell you what might be wrong. the code is the place to start. My 99 sat for a year, and after recharging the battery and getting it started the only code I could get though, was the dead battery or disconnected battery code- but the point is, it started. Check for mouse-eaten wires at the cam sensor and the Crank Sensor. Hey- it could happen...

Remove the black connector to pcm . Check for corrosion pins . Then inspect the plug end for corrosion. I found moisture seep by the weather pack seal and wire on older vehicles.

1999 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE NOW LEAKING GaS AT TOP OF GAS TANK AFTER A FUEL PUMP BEING PUT IN

If it's the CAT you should be able to notice this while driving as driving with blocked or broken CAT usually feels lack your lacking a little power, like the car is slower than normal, also if you hold your foot on the accelerator at the same place you may notice what almost feels like air bubbles in the fuel line kinda feel, little jerks as your driving along as if the car does not like being sat at set revs, cars with the CAT on it's way out usually like to either be accelerating or decelerating not sitting at the same revs as you get that jerky feeling, thats one way to tell... If it is blocked up it can stall by blocking the air coming out of the exhaust, the other issue maybe the backbox on the exhaust could need replacing, similar symptoms as i mentioned before as it's all in the same pipe doing similar thing to the air. My garage once drilled a hole into the backbox and it was like magic and the car felt like new again!! which loads more power, the back box needed replacing of course along with the cat.
Aside from the above could it just be your tick over is set too low? just an idea... You will usually be able to tell if it's the cat from driving it, you will notice a difference in the cars performance, it will feel very restricted when you put your foot down like the old cars with the distributors on them when the timing was out, it feels like that! hope that might help a little but im not a certifed mechanic!

If your "check engine" light is turn on, I suggest scanned the PCM to know exactly what fault code is stored there. Additionally, could be some problem with the "temp sending unit".

2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee battery will drain

Ditto here on a 2005 jeep. We bought it new and found the battery dead on a few mornings the first year. Nothing left on. Did the new alternator thing about 2 yrs. ago and a few batteries along the way. This is what we noticed..... If you leave a CD in the CD player, that is the prime little devil that sucks out the juice. Now, we never turn off the car while a CD is in the dash. Now, maybe not necessary every time, but always overnight and now by habit, all the time, we make sure there is no CD inserted when the car is off. Hope this helps.

96 Dodge Ram suddenly had low bat power - hard start - runs poor

Any time the computer loses power it has to go threw a set of things to Learn how to run the car, it must go threw relearning process sometimes they never set all flags because you don't drive in conditions to set a flag, for example if you are in the desert and never drive up a hill like in Colorado then you would never meet that flag requirement, as for the low voltage it seems that the ASD shorts out on these rigs and sets the codes so you have to do a pin out of the computer to see if you have a bad ground a bad asd or asd relay and you would have to charge your battery to full capacity and do a voltage test and a load test on the battery and then see if the alternator is putting out.. Check the battery and charging system first.
