Gas Gauge won't move

I have a 2002 Jeep Liberty. The Other morning my gas light came on. As I was driving to the gas station the needle moved all the way to full then right back to empty. I didn't think anything of it. I filled it up and when I got back in the needle didn't move. So now I go every 2 days and top it up because the needle still reads empty. What do I do???

Replace the fuel sensor / sending unit, it is inside the gas tank, it is a lot of work to drop the gas tank, I have done it on other cars... If you want to do it make sure the tank is almost empty it is very heavy with all that gas inside make sure there is no open flames or cigarretes close
Good Luck

SOURCE: Fuel gauge registers empty after fill up

It sounds to me like you have a short in your wiring harness at you fuel tank. there is a plug on top of your fuel tank that controls you fuel pump and your sending unit that tells you how much fuel is in the tank. This plug can be a real p.i.a to get to on some vehicles, you may have to take the vehicle to a shop to fix it, if you are not mechanically inclined.

2002 Jeep Liberty ran car last night then went next day no start and the fuel gauge doesn't move so I put gas in it but still doesn't move nor start

Spray starting fluid into the engine air intake, if it fires up and dies you have a defective fuel pump most likely.

It sounds like an onboard computer malfunction that would have to be analyzed at a competent mechanic outlet, to determine if the computer module needs repacing, or could be fixed.

Gas gauge wont go past half it stops at half and will go to empty but never past half

There is a fuel gauge sensor in your fuel tank. If the sensor is out of place, it will not read the amount of gas in your tank correctly if it is out of place. This is a fixable job, but I recommend a ceritfied mechanic. Hope this helps! Please give 4 thumbs up!

2001 chevy silverado 4.8 gas gauge not working properly

Fairly common problem with GM vehicles. The sending unit in your tank has a small circuit board that an arm is attached to which moves up and down according to your fuel level. This circuit board and arm are not making good contact. Unfortunately the only good solution is to replace this part.
