To change Rear Brake Pads on a 1997 Buick Park Avenue. Remove the bottom bolt on the caliper. The top has a non removable pivot pin. Remove the bolt that holds the brake emergency brake to the frame. Remove the 2 bolts in the rear of the axle plate that hold the caliper in place. (they take a #18 metric socket and you may need a breaker bar to loosen them) With the caliper free from the mount, swing the pad holder up on the top pivot pin and remove the old shoes and replace. Turn the caliper piston clockwise and inboard with a caliper disk brake tool (harbour freight about 19 bucks). Flip the shoe holder part of the caliper back in place and put the assembly back over the rotor. Re install the bolts (blue locktite on the caliper mount bolts and tighten slight snug with breaker bar) retighten the bottom caliper bolt (moderately no locktite)

Follow the directions that sbrit56880 explained. This procedure worked fabulously. If you intend on changing the hardware (dust boots and bolts) because the caliper doesn't move freely, make sure you take the old parts with you if you can, if not at least take the bolts so you can match them up. On the rear the top non removable pin can be removed by popping the chrome cover with the rubber nub sticking out. Don't do this unless you have the replacement kit in your hand because you will probably destroy the cover taking it off. Use the lube that comes with the kit. And guess what? I bought mine at Napa Auto Parts and it was made in the USA! The tool to adjust the caliper piston is made by several manufacturers including Lisle (Part number 25000) Not as inexpensive as Harbor Freight though. By the way this procedure also works for the Buick Riviera.

97 brake light chime

Several possibilities here, First, if your parking brake lever is even slightly engaged your brake light will be on. so check the cable and switch to make sure it is not this. Second is the brake pressure switch on the master cylinder, the switch could be bad or your lines may need bleeding. and last, unless there is a separate light for it you anti-lock brakes could have an issue, which I would recommend a qualified mech look at that.

Help with installing brake shoes on 1993 buick park ave

Your Buick has front disc brakes...and rear drum brakes...the usual concern is the front pads as they are used more...these are the easiest pads to replace...as you only need to remove the caliper from the rotor with 2 bolts to lift off...Be sure to push the piston all the way back into the caliper to install new pads...rotors are pop offs too...The rear drum is different...the brake shoes are held on with clips and springs...try keeping one of the shoe assemblies intact while you switch out the other shoes...be sure to inspect the rear wheel brake cylinders for possible leaking...usually an oil build up inside the brake drum...these are inexpensive and should be switched out on a 93 Buick...:) Hope this helps.

How do I compress the rear disc brake piston on a 99 Park Avenue? It will not compress with a C-clamp.

One side of the vehicle(rear only) will screw in right hand clockwise, the other side left hand. While doing this push in a little bit as you turn the piston.Make sure they go all the way in,and align the notches for the brake pads to set in them. You can purchase the tool cheap at the auto parts store to do this with.It is square with different notches all around it,and it fits on a 3/8 ratchet.I hope this was helpful.if so.let me know, thanks.

Use a large C-clamp and a thin piece of wood...compress slowly so you don't over-pressurize the master cylinder.
