Question about 1996 Chevrolet C1500

Water pouring from left rear cornor of engine by valve cover

There is no water in oil and water dripping by water pump but water pump not sure if it is from rear leak by the way its a brand new water pump.

Most likely a leak from intake manifold.

this could be many possibilities. The best way to find out is to raise it up (if not high enough already) and wipe down everything that has oil on it. Once you do this you can sit there for a bit or do something else for a few minutes and come back to it. Use a flashlight to see where the oil may be dripping from and if you can not find it you may have to run the truck for a bit to see.

first drain fluid and remove diff cover take off tires theres a c-clip in the diff that needs to be removed so you can take the axles out the seal is behind the axles pull old ones and install new replace c-clip and cover fill with recomender diff oil you should be good

I have the same problem with my monte, it is a rubber gasket located toward the back of the engine. Its a .89 cent part that will cost you the labor of lifting the engine to replace it. I just keep putting oil in it.

This is most likely a leak from your rear main seal. It happens and can be a pain to replace if you're a DYI kinda person without the nec. equipment.

  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle with jackstands.
  2. Remove the transmission.
  3. If equipped with a manual transmission, remove the clutch and pressure plate.
  4. Remove the flywheel assembly.
  5. Using a suitable prytool, carefully pry the old seal out.
6. Inspect the crankshaft for nicks or burrs, correct as required.

To install:
  1. Clean the area and coat the seal with engine oil. Install the seal onto tool J-34686 for 3.4L engines, J 41349 for 3.8L engines or J 35621 for 5.7L engines.
  2. Install the tool (with the seal mounted to it) onto the rear of the crankshaft. Tighten the screws snugly to be sure the seal will be installed squarely over the crankshaft.

  1. Tighten the wing nut on the installation tool until it bottoms out.
  2. Remove the tool from the crankshaft or rear oil seal housing, as applicable.

  1. Install the flywheel.
  2. If equipped with a manual transmission, install the clutch and pressure plate.
  3. Install the transmission.

A crack in that area of the block, while possible, is highly unlikely. A crack in the block usually happens in between the cylinder walls on the side of the block. It is most likely leaking from the intake manifold gasket that connects the intake manifold to the heads, or if the upper radiator hose connects to the intake manifold, it could be leaking from the thermostat housing or hose. There are also coolant temperature sensors that are mounted in that area. Or last but not least, it could be leaking from one of the freeze plugs in the end of the head. Coolant runs through the block, heads and intake manifold.

Leaky valve cover on my jdm subaru


The only thing you might need to buy beside the gasket is any rubber parts that have been damaged by the leaking oil.
Check your radiator hoses, heater hoses, and vacuum lines, because motor oil will "rot:" rubber.
You need only replace hoses that are "spongy"and are wet with oil.

Valve cover leaking


The valve cover gaskets can be a large job on this vehicle and could cost you $450-490 depending on the labor rate in your area. I would quote 5.5 hours; the rear main seal could be about the same, maybe $100 more in labor time.



I would expect an engine with this mileage to leak some oil... not drip, but seep oil on the hot engine and produce a smell or smoke. Make sure the PCV system is working correctly, use thicker weight engine oil like 50 weight Castrol and use an over the counter oil additive like Engine Restore, which you can buy at your local auto parts store.

Have oil leak not heavy, but it leaks any answer were it could be coming from..


Valve Covers, Head Gaskets, Oil Pan Seal and a number of other spots. You'll need to clean the motor with Gunk Engine cleaner and then look for the largest build ups of oil and crud to get a better idea where it is.

I have a 1993 Dodge Caravan 3.0 Engine V6. I have been told It needs a water pump. I checked the hoses and clamps. I filled the radiator and on the left side driver's side it just kept pouring out behind...


Unfortunately if the water is coming out of the back of the block that is not going to be a water pump. It's also not going to be anything you want to hear at the moment. The only thing on the rear of the engine that could be leaking water is a water jacket or the Head Gasket being blown. Neither is an easy or cheap fix. Double check and make sure the water is coming from the rear of the engine because if it is there is no happy time in the near future.

Sounds like the valve cover gasket, clean off all the oil on the engine with a pressure washer or a steam cleaner and then drive it and recheck for the leak, that way you can pin it down for sure.

Water pouring out when poured into radaitor


You have a bad casting plug in the side of the engine. A lot of people call them freeze plugs because they pop out if the coolant freezes. They also rust through. They are driven in place and the size can be looked up at the parts store. You will want to change all of them . Lee
