Bumping noise in rear of Buick LeSabre

There is a bumping noise in the rear of my 2001 Buick LeSabre. My mechanic put it on the lift and tried to move things under the car with a bar and nothing was loose. There is nothing in the trunk making the noise. When the trunk lid is pushed on, no noise. I have new shocks. It sounds like something bumping something else. Bump, bump, bump. Not s rsttle. HELP

If you have fitted new shockys I suggest you check the travel of the units as it sounds as if they are bottoming out Pistons hitting bottom of internal cylinder.

Hello. Welcome to FIxYa.

Your noise is most likely worn out 'rear strut support mounts'.

On top of the rear struts, there is a metal plate that locates the top of the strut to the body, Inside this plate is a centering device that holds the top of the strut vertically secure. As the mount wears, the strut is no longer vertically secure, and allow the tip if the strut to hit the inside edge of the metal plate.

We change these parts quite often, this is a very common occurance, and is easily rectified.

What you will need to do: Have a qualified technican remove the rear strut assemblies, disassemble them, and replace the top support mounts.

We do not recommend that you try this yourself, if you do not have the required experience, and the necessary tool (a strut coil-spring compresser). If you try to remove the coil spring from the strut assembly without the proper tools, you could very well injure yourself. The coil spring is under a significent amount of tension.

This is a job best left to a professional machanic who has the proper tools.

Thanks for choosing FixYa today.

Does a 2001 buick lesabre have shocks ? if so how much does it cost to replace?

Ok first of all your car has shocks in the rear and they are not very hard to replace or terribly expensive. The front has what they call struts which in effect are shocks with a springs wrapped around them as an assembly. Replacing struts can be expensive and will probably need to be changed by a shop if you are not equipped to do it yourself. You will most likely need to get the wheels aligned as well. I recommend calling around to different shops for a price. My guess for new front struts installed plus the alignment is $300-$400.

Hotmaimy 2001 buick la sabrer in the morning when I first back up has a growling or grinding noise. It has been getting louder and louder. sounds like coming from the back end. took it to the mechanic...

Did the technician check the rear axle bearings for excessive play or the source of the noise when he checked the rear brakes if this was not checked properly you may have a bad bearing that is making the noise.

On my buick lesabre limited 2001, the passenger side a/c and heat is not working.

NOT WORKING MEANS. NO AIR FLOW? OR TEMPERATURE? SOUNDS LIKE A BLEND DOOR ISSUE. IF YOU MOVE THE MODE CONTROL ON THE DASH TO A DIFFERENT POSITION DOES ANYTHING CHANGE. IF YOU HEAR A CLICKING OR POPPING NOISE THE PLASTIC ARM ON THE BLEND DOOR ACTUATOR IS BROKEN.

Wheel noise or roar in front end with increased road speed

THIS NOISE IS USUALLY THE HUB. HAVE SOMEONE GO WITH YOU ON A TEST DRIVE. GET THE ROARING TO HAPPEN AT ITS LOUDEST AND GENTLY SWERVE THE CAR LEFT AND RIGHT. DON'T BE SURPRISED IF YOU THINK BOTH HUBS ARE BAD. LIFT THE FRONT OF THE CAR AND PUT IT ON JACK STANDS. PULL OUTWARD ON THE BOTTOM OF THE TIRE WHILE PUSHING INWARD ON THE TOP OF THE WHEEL. IF THE WHEEL MOVES EXCESSIVELY YOU FOUND THE HUB THAT IS NOISY. USING A MECHANICS STETHOSCOPE YOU CAN SOMETIMES HEAR A ROARING TYPE NOISE ON THE BACKING PLATE SIDE OF THE HUB WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING AND THE TRANS IN GEAR. TRY NOT TO GET THE SPEED UP TOO FAR ESPECIALLY IF YOU CAN HEAR THE NOISE AT LOW SPEED, YOU DON'T WANT TO VIBRATE OFF THE STANDS.
