High Idle Idles too high. Dead miss. When in gear runs like spark plug wire is off. Smooths out for a while then stars missing again, Wires, dist cap & rotor & plugs changed

Perform a valve clearance inspection and adjust if necessary. Tight or sticking valves will cause a misfire or rough running concern. Note: Perform valve adjustment when the engine is stone cold. 4cyl: INT 0.26mm EXH: 0.30mm (V6 engine are hydraulic and no adjust necessary.) Also check for a sticking or stuck open EGR valve. For diagnostic purposes only: Remove the EGR valve. Place a business card over the EGR passage and bolt the EGR valve back on. This plugs the EGR ports and if the misfire goes away the EGR valve is partially stuck open and is defective.
Check for low fuel pressure. Check for low compression. Check cam timing. Check for a weak ignition coil. Also don't over look the possibility of worn or broken engine mounts which cause excessive engine movement and engine vibration. -hope this helps

Check to see if all your fuel injectors are firing. To check, take a screw driver and press it agains the injector, then press your ear against the handle of the screw driver and listen for clicking. If no clicking, then either your injector is bad or you have a bad injector resistor pack. I'm not sure how to test the resistor pack (standing in front of the car, it's on the right side of the engine compartment with the heatsink attached), but you can check your injector by measuring the resistance on the contacts of the injector. You should get 1.5 - 2.5 ohms. If not in that range, that could be your problem. Next I'd think about replacing the ignitor inside the distributer and/or checking the fuel pressure to make sure it's good.

It sounds like something is improperly installed or broken under the distributor cap. Take the cap back off and check for damaged/misaligned/broken parts or electrical connectors that are loose. If you see nothing obviously wrong, the igniter may have given up the ghost. This is part of the distributor assembly and you have to buy a complete distributor to get it. The igniter can be destroyed by improperly gapped plugs, a broken or damaged cap or rotor, etc.

Problems with 96 jimmy missing out especially when the trans needs to shift. I replaced spark plugs, wires, rotor button, dist cap, oil and filter, fuel filter, idle position sensor. Starts and idles fine,...

This then could be a malfunction of the Computer system, have it checked out by someone that understands more then just reading a code shown on the meter....

change plug and wire if its been a while most cars have 90000 miles platinum plugs in them.but the wires wear before plugs.so change plugs and wires.+clean fuel injectors .change fuel filter and air filter.if car still run rough your idling to low.have idling check .
