My cruise control disengages and has to be manually reset. The cruise light on the dash will blink sometimes but never goes out. Any suggestions would be appreciated
If I reset the cruise it will hold the speed for a while and disengage. The speed remains constant at set speed. This problem appeared shortly after I had the timing belt replaced. If I reset the cruise it will hold the speed for a while and disengage. The speed remains constant at set speed. has it done this before now? does the speed drop off allot (more than 5 MPH) just before the cruise shuts itself off?has it done this before now? does the speed drop off allot (more than 5 MPH) just before the cruise shuts itself off?

I would take it into the dealer and have them check it out, but it sounds like a defective cruise control transducer, that is the part that actually holds the speed.

cruise control best let garage check out, here are few things to check, check fuse and check to see if brake lights dont work.check brake light fuse if fuse okay brake light switch could faulty or bad connection then brake light will reset cruise control you apply brakes.if all is good problem could be speed sensor or accelerator pedal to ecm.you need diagnostic euipment to troubleshoot.
The brake lights are controled basicly with a switch mounted to the brake pedal . In most cases it is adjustable by adjusting a nut that will eighter lenghten or shorten the travel of the plunger at the stop point . So if the lights stay on with no pedal pressure the adjustment needs to be shorter and if they are not comeing on it would need to be longer . However the question isn"t vary clear to me .My brake light is not ABS on my Lexus RX300. Try to find out what else is efficted there are other switches involved like the cruise control brake switch witch when you hit the brake will shut the cruise control off and is wired to the main brake switch . Or is the vehicle pulling in one deriction or the other when you apply the brake that would be a brake pad or shoe problem . So how do the brakes work . If you could clarify the problem i could help you much more
These lights come on for several reasons, but often in relation to air fuel mixture. First, if you recently filled the tank, go back and unscrew and re screw your gas cap until it ratchets . If you are low on fuel, fill the tank with premium and see if the light goes out over a day or so.. If it all goes out you are fortunate.
If you continue to see the light, have a dealer or qualified tech, scope the car and reset the lite In all likelyhood you will need one of 3 sensors. For my money I would ask the dealer to reset and give you the info identifying if it is sensor 1 , 2 or 3 and point out where it sits. Then just buy the part and install. The sensors are like changing a spark plug. They are visible but EXPENSIVE. The other possibility is you might have a dirty throttle valve needing some carb spray inside where the snorkle hose attaches from the air cleaner to the throttle itself. Again the dealer should identify the cause unless you have tester for the ECU.You dont want to replace the wrong sensors because a friend said that was THE one he did. Mine was the front, right near the rad, but I know the mechanic and he is a friend who showed me the readouts and the test procedure while he worked. I had previously cleaned my throttle valve and still had to replace to sensor 3 weeks later, but my fuel economy spiked when it was done.
here are two switches that are the usual causes of the cruise kicking
out. they are both under the dash. One is the switch for the brake
lamps (stop light switch). the other is for the clutch if you have a
manual transmission.
if you follow the brake pedal up under the dash you'll find two
switches at the top of the pedal. (it may be one switch but I think its
two). the top one would be for the cruise control. if the switch is
loose it will cause the cruise control to think you're stepping on the
brake and that will disengage the cruise control
same with the clutch pedal if you have a manual transmission; if the
switch is loose it will indicate you are pushing the clutch pedal in
and cause the cruise to kick out
other than that you'll have to check all of the connectors. If it does
engage then the fuses and actuators should be good and it would be a
loose connector or switch that's kicking it out
also, i assume your speedometer works; if its not then that's your problem as the cruise won't engage under 30 mph
If I reset the cruise it will hold the speed for a while and disengage. The speed remains constant at set speed. This problem appeared shortly after I had the timing belt replaced.
Thank you
