2002 Hyundai XG350, is it hard to replace front and back shocks, struts on this car, I have replaced my shocks before, but not sure about this model the car makes loud bumping noise when on rough road, the car has 110,000 miles on it but shocks shows no oil leak, thought it might be the bushings, but might change shocks since it has over 100,000 miles on them

You have worn out upper strut bearing support caps. This is the device that is on top of the struts, and hold the strut to the car. This is a very common issue. You will need to remove the struts, and have the strut coils compressed to remove the bearing support caps. Please do NOT try to compress the strut coils without the correct tool. You could get severly injured if you try this without a proper coil-spring compresser.

i had the same problem on a golf. the coil spring moved in the shock housing. shrink the coil spring and turn it into possision. hope this will help.

Check the shock and sway bar bushings. Most likely the shock is loose and if its original needs replaced.

That's it. Just be very very careful as with the spring compressed there is alot of force, and if it slips out, someone could die.
SOURCE: replaced the rear struts and shocks but there is
You probably need to tighten down the center bolt. With the vehicle on the ground with weight on the struts (laden weight), tighten the center bolt in the strut tower. That should take care of your problem.

Had the same annoying sound on my '02 XG350. Having the bushings replaced solved the problem for a couple years. The sound is back now (85K). The struts did not seem to cause the problem. I've seen several online references to this SAME problem with XG350s and I'm convinced this is a mfg flaw. Unfortunately Hyundai doesn't accept responsibility, and the sound usually appears after the 60K warrantee is past. Mine occurred at 56K, but the dealer said it was something loose in the trunk. When I returned at 63K when the problem persisted, they denied responsibility. Had to pay $300+ to replace the bushings (mostly labor $).
they are struts and yes they are very difficult to install, u need special tools and a fair amount of skill, it can be very dangerious.
