Hesitation on acceleration engine runs fine otherwise

Step on gas pedal and nothing happens then all of a sudden it realizes i pushed the gas pedal and should be accelerating.engine runs great otherwise no misfires or anything like that

when i step on the gas quickly (like when i am making a left turn into oncoming traffic), the car goes SLOWER not fatsre - there is a distint hesitation, then it finally kicks in and goes fast. very unnerving to not know whether the car will actually perform when I need it to.

My 99 Audi A4 2.8 Quattro was havinga problem starting at times. It would idle poor upon start and then it would come up in rpm where it should be. I had hesitation from a start and after coasting for more than 5-8 seconds, the car would shake violently upon acceleration at about 1/3 throttle. I cleaned the Mass Air Flow Sensor. This helped but did not solve all my problems. I then replaced the Mass Air Flor Sensor. Little to no change there ($108.00). Lastly, I replaced the spark plugs. I bought Bosch plugs ($4.82 ea.). This got rid of all the symptoms. I had bad lugs and possibily a dirty MAF!

My question: what can cause the car to do this?

I assume the car you are talking about is your 1968 Dodge Dart GTS with a 4-speed manual transmission. The engine has a special camshaft, Chrysler P/N 312044, which has a 60 degree overlap in the valve timing, since the engine is built to rev in excess of 6,000 RPM. The problem with your car is obviously a leaky accelerator pump. Why don't you get a car that (1) does not have to run on premium gas (because of its 10.5:1 compression ratio), and (2) uses fuel injectors instead of a wild 4 barrel carburetor made for 1/4 mile drag racing? I happen to know that that is the car you are referring to, because you did NOT say that it WASN'T!

Hesitation when accelerating

If it does this only when warm then it may be the coil pack. To prove it you can warm the car's engine up and when the problem occurs, stop the engine and remove the coil pack. Place it in a bag if cool enough and place in the freezer, ensuring it can't get wet! Once cool, replace the coil pack and start the engine. If it's fine for a minute and then plays up, it's almost certainly the coil pack.

Throttle hesitation

Is the check engine light on, and have you checked fuel pressure with a gauge ?
The most common cause of that problem is a faulty Throttle Position Sensor but it should set a code in the computer.

Acceleration is not working

when you press the gas can you hear the engine accelerate if you can then that means it is your transmission if you cant it is your gas cable linkage just snap you can just replace it by removing your engine cover then add a small nut and tie it to the end of your gas linkage strech it in to the plastic arm and you can then use it to take to your mechanic to fix it properly
