A/c compressor won't kick on

Check the relay inside the engine compartment. It may be sticking allowing the 12v's to stay on the cooling fan. Sometime this box that contain the relays are on the passanger side.

If everything checks out as you say then a likely culprit is either the dashboard ac switch or the fan switch (both must be on for the compressor to run). Check continuity on those switches or see if a wire is loose.

I don't thing there is a short there is radiator fan switch that control these fan, it works off of heat. There is also a fan relay that control look in fuse box inside the hood for fan relay and make sure its NOT stuck , if it isn't then its the fan switch.This switch may be bad and cause the fan to turn on. Replace radiator fan switch located on water outlet on engine and this should solve your problem. A

It could be that there was more than one leak and the dealer found only one. The AC system has two pressure switches to protect the compressor from damage---a low press. switch cuts off the compressor when there is not enough refrigerant in the system, the high switch cuts off when pressures get so high they could blow out the seals. Both are a result of a leak--refrigerant leaks out and air can leak in. Air will compress and when it does, it gets hot--so no cooling, and pressures go way up. So the compressor may have been stopped by those protective switches.

Of course, there could be a bad relay or other circuit malfunction.

Another possibility is that the compressor sat too long before being repaired (but we are talking about weeks going by here, not days). The air and moisture (humidity) that leaks into the system during this time creates acids that will attack the metal reed valves in the compressor. On restart, the damaged metal valves eat themselves in short order. If this is the case, the compressor ran until it seized and will need to be replaced. This particular problem is impossible to diagnose. So the dealer may have done his best.

the whine can be a couple of different things. one, it may be low on refrigerant oil, which will cause it to be drier than it should be, which, would of course, cause a whine. if the whine is heard even when the ac is off, then it could be that u got water in your belts, your belt might be loose, or some sort of belt issue. well to charge it, im pretty sure you know the procedure, but here it goes any ways: wear eye protection of course, and preferably gloves too, remove the cap off the lower pressure side, turn your ac on to max, connect your ac recharging house to your r134a oil first, then connect other end to the ac port. once you connect it, make a hole with the knob on the top of the oil container, release, and shake, until the bottle becomes cold, then empty. repeat steps with refrigerant, then stop leak if necessary. note: when done, turn away when removing the hose off the ac port as you never know if something can spray out.

i posted this link because this bottle has the hose which i stated attached to it, i know auto parts stores should sell it, if not, you can always buy it with a can like this one. another thing, i dont know if they still have it or even if its available in all areas, but i recharged my a/c not too long ago and i bought my bottles at walmart. i got 2 for around 24, and if you return the empty bottles with the receipt within a couple of days, they give you a core return of 10 dollars per can, so i recharged my ac for like 5 bucks, so you might want to check it out. no guarantess though. i think on the back of the bottle it says something about 10 dollars. hope this helps, and if you need any more help, let me know. goodluck.
