Depending on which engine is in the Monte 3.1 or 3.4 there is a sensor located in the coolant tank reservoir. Most likely this sensor is bad and need replaced but sometimes you can use a screwdriver or something to lightly tap the reservoir by the sensor and sometimes this will allow the light to out. If the light does go out like this you have pretty much verified the sensor is a problem.Often this does work but most likely the sensor will need replaced.
the low coolant sensor is on the side of the radiator about 3 04 inches below the radiator cap. Yuo can unclip the wire and then there is a clip I think or it may just push in with an o ring around the nipp;e. So you will have to wiggle it out. I have the same problem. I just unplugged the damn thing. (disconect the wire)
sensor is in the coolant jug on right side of car. you will see a plug on bottom of tank this is sensor. A lot of times you can smack the jug a few times and this will jar the sensor it gets stuck sometimes. or pull off tank and clean out.
