Speedometer on 2004 GMC Envoy not working. It

Speedometer on 2004 GMC Envoy not working. It cost me 90$ for the dealer to tell me that it was going to cost me another 395$ to fix. What a rip off!

    I just picked up a 2004 Envoy at a GMC Dealership with the same problem...the speedometer either creeps up or down...I just got it today so they have to fix it for free with in the 30 day garage keepers act here in Canada..

    There is no cable on 2004. Its all electronic. What does your speedo do/not do. Does it work at all or intermittantly?

    You're an idiot! The most difficult part of the job can be the diagnosis. Did your mummy give you the 2004 Envoy or did someone actually pay you to go to work? I think you ripped them off.

Speedometer cable is probably broken, need to replace it, goes from the back of the gauge panel to the transmission

Call your local GM dealer and have them check part numbers. I don't believe it will. If the stepper motors went out and the needles go haywire you should have the unit repaired for around 120$ most places will charge. US Speedo The Industry Leader in Everything Speedometer

Mc 2004 Envoy speedomiter reads in Km not mph ?
Guess.
Either the vehicle or the speedometer is from Canada, as is set up to run in that country.
Changing it will be a really big job, as you would have to take the dash apart, I think
If it were mine, I'd call a GMC dealer and ask them what it would cost to change it over.
If that were too expensive for you, you might consider finding a way to add MPH numbers to the plastic speedometer cover, like little stick on plastic numbers people buy at an office supply store.

Speedometer is working but reading way off
It appears that you need to have the speedometer calibrated. Unfortunately, this is very challenging. You'll need to take it to a mechanic. Dependent on where you take your Envoy it can cost around $75+

How do I gain access to lights behind the temperature control knobs/sliders on my 2004 GMC Envoy?
Some of those are not serviceable and you have to replace the control head. Call a parts department at a GMC dealer and ask them if the bulbs are servicable or not and that will tell you whether or not to go any further.

2004 GMC Envoy XUV (SLE pkg). AC will blow through EVERY vent EXCEPT the front dash vents. Dealer says entire dash has to come off to dx the prob and quotes exorbitant labor costs. Help!
There are two possible problems, a stuck blend door (this common) or the door controller has lost synchronization. The first requires disassembly of the dash and the second can be done with the following procedure'
Pull the HVAC-B (#36) fuse for 30 seconds (located in the rear fuse panel under the seat), then put it back in. Then turn the ignition switch to RUN (no need to start the engine). Don't touch ANY controls for 90 seconds. I don't think it matters what position the controls are in, but some people think it works better if you have the HVAC system turned off. After 90 seconds, the actuators have gone through their paces, the controller has new memory data on the end stops of the rotation of each actuator, and you might be good to go

Envoy 2004 cd player
I had same problem with a 2005 Envoy in Jan '09. I took it to the ex-GM dealer. He said he'd try. The unit would only play using radio.
Mechanic took unit out of dash, and top off of unit. Ejected CD bu moving the eject mechanism. Replaced top and unit.
Works and plays cds. Cost $25.00 And i tipped the mechanic $10.00 for his knowledge.

2004 GMC Envoy Speedometer Issues
This issue is caused by faulty motors inside your Envoy instrument cluster and can only be repair by taking out the instrument cluster and replacing the motors which requires de-soldering and soldering tools and the correct replacement parts.
