I just replaced the alternator 2 weeks ago, up until 3 days ago she was running nice. Then she was losing power as I was driving. So we bought a new batt. It turned over and started about 5 times. Now she won't start. All I hear is a clicking sound when I turn the key to the on position. When I turn it to the off position I hear a loud humming sound on the driverside door near or around the gas tank. Is it a fuse, relay, connection, alternator, belt, fuel pump, or a short? Please help.......
Check the drive belt condition and tension first as the initial tension setting may now be loose.

The alternator is there to carry the electrical load of the car with a bit left over to charge the battery. If the battery lasts for a few days then the alternator is not doing the job and part of that job requirement is a properly adjusted belt. It take considerable power to drive the alternator so if the belt is not tensioned properly or is worn out then the charge voltage will be less than what is required for the electrical system. Have the system check for failed fuse s etc.
Thank you for all your help!

Recheck the charge on the battery, make sure it's fully charged.Check all connections at the battery and at the starter.Possibly a bad starter. If the starter is ruled out, then look at the teeth on the flexplate/flywheel.I would remove the starter and test it.

Aye, I would check or have the Ignition control module checked. Also the crankshaft position sensor imputs to the ICM. No crank signal being recieved means the control module wont send the spark out as the module has no idea where the piston position is. Surprised your local GM techs could fix this. I am a GM and ASE master certified tech who has spent the last 9 years with our local Cadillac dealership.

Try to reset the p.c. by unpluging the batt. for 10 min that should do the trick.

First, obviously, put gas back in the tank.
Check the fuel pump fuse, (20 amp yellow fuse in the lower left corner of the group). If that is not blown, turn the key on and pound hard on the bottom of the fuel tank. The fuel lubricates the fuel pump, once it runs dry, the pump can lock up. Once the pump is immersed in fuel again, a sharp jolt will unstick it and let it pump up to pressure again. If it locks up for too long, the pump will burn out and need replaced.
We found this out by accident, got mad and pounded on the bottom of the tank and the pump jumped to life.

I have had the same problem and I have come to the conclusion it is the security system. After 3 minutes the car will start so there is nothing wrong with the battery or starter. I have had it to the dealer a few times and they cannot solve it. It may be the locks on the doors and they may not be resetting properly. I have learned to live with it.
