While driving my car it will randomly shut off but sometimes will still be running, all of the gauges will go completely down but I can still drive it. If it cuts completely off I put it in park turn it off and start it back up and its fine only it does it multiple times for about a week and then doesn't do it again for another month or so. Every time I start it back up after cutting off the gas gauge reads differently too. I have taken it to a dealership who replaced the fuel pump but that didn't help and now they say they can't figure out whats wrong with it unless it happens while they are driving it to know exactly whats wrong
Does it seem to do this when hot or cold or both ? After refueling ? Under a load, as in pulling a hill ?

Even with it actting up it could be a pain to find . All the electronic's an wiring an connections , ground circuit's an B+ circuits .Plus C.A.N. Serial data network , do you know what this C.A.N. is ? controller area network , all the modules on the vehicle share info on it . The instrument cluster gauges info come's from the PCM - engine computer over this network . Here read this
How to Diagnose Controller Area Network CAN Your problem could be cause by lose ground connection ,a lose network connection . Something that mite require the dash (instrument panel ) to be pulled out of the vehicle . So don't be to ******* the dealer , they just want to be sure , because if they need to pull the dash out that can be expensive ! Close to $1,000 bucks .

Something similar happened to my 2005. the gauges went crazy! stopped half way or dropped completely down. Like the fuel indicator, speedometer, tach. While I never lost the radio or headlights, I did lose my dashboard lights--pretty creepy at night. My husband did some online digging and found the problem. In the dashboard gauge set-up there is a poor solder on one of the electronic components. He took the gauge center off, popped it open, found the crappy solder, fixed it, put it back in and it has worked fine ever since!!!
the ****--Ford knows about this faulty soldering and since it doesn\'t happen to ALL of the cars--just a select few(even more models we found out later)--they won\'t do a recall. Even if you take it to a dealership for them to fix, odds are they could replace it with an entire unit with the same problem. Your best bet is to fix the bad solder yourself or find someone who can.

there is a plug connector on the top of the engine (you should be able to see it with the engine cover still on) check the wires going to the plug as they are known to brake
please let me know if this helps
cheers

If the guage is reading but not accurately it may be the incorrect fuel pump for the vehicle or the float is may not be in the retaining clip all the way. Also possible that the float got bent during installation. Can you describe what the guage is doing such as reading full when its 1/2 full or jumping around on you?
