Volvo s40 engine noise

Hi there. i have a volvo s 40/1998 and it started making a strong weird noise when i try to turn the weals and a strong smell of rubber or plastic or something comes out of the engine. any clues of what might have happened? it worked fine until a parking lot and then it started going crazy

When you say turn the wheels I am guessing you mean when you try to turn the front wheels? So when you are steering? The noise is probably coming from the power steering pump. first thing to check is the power steering fluid level. If that is OK then there may be problems with the pump itself.

Take it to a power steering specialist shop and have them check the drive belt first and the the power steering for failure

SOURCE: Electronic vent control not working in Volvo S40

Hi,
I think here, by your description, that there might be something that has slipped inside the vent holes from outside. you can try to blow some compressed air through the vent holes at the bottom of the windscreen.
Otherwise you can try to look under the dash, activate the switch and see if you can locate from where the noise is coming and see if you can reach the mechanism that control the vent. Normally it must be moving free. Otherwise your local mechanic should be able to fix that ufor you.
Cheers.

SOURCE: 2007 volvo s40. engine has a whining noise however

You will need to change the oil filter housing and the hose that attaches to it, the amount of vacum going thru this box has changed causing an excess in the crank case. do not drive for you may cause damage to cam and crank seals

2007 volvo S40 will not start after replacing alternator belt, smell gas after trying to start

I am thinking faulty injectors and/or excessive fuel pressure in the fuel manifold . Run fault codes again ensuring that the cables used and the procedure to connect is adhered to as there will be a fault code recorded but not being read

My 2004 volov s40 is having starting problems

It sounds like the fuel pressure regulator diaphragm is broken, causing fuel to flood the engine when first started, then clear up and run fine. This is a common problem. let the vehicle sit for a few hours , then pulling off the vacuum hose to the regulator. Fuel may dribble out of the hose indicating bad regulator. You can also smell the end of the hose for a raw gas smell.

I have a volvo s40 2.0t se the other day after i came back from a trip it was on tic over out side the house wen the temp gauge droped to cold and the revs went up to 1200 and a strong smell of fuel was...

First things first. Check your coolant level. If that is up to snuff, then have the engine data scanned, and see if your coolant temp sensor is out of whack. If it reads very low, the pcm will give the fuel management system directions to add alot of fuel. However , as I mentioned before, low coolant can cause the temp sensor to read a cold engine(it usually must be submerged in coolant) and cause the same problem. There are more things to check, but this is the place to start. If you have no luck with these suggestions, get back to me and we'll go furthur. Good luck!

Hello I own a 2004 Volvo and have fume smells

Most likely the catalytic converter temporary plugged and or the fresh air door jammed and allowed smell from the engine compartment came it. The catalytic converter can come loose and going around a turn it may plug it temporary and blow out the exhaust gaskets and cause the smell.
