Replaced battery on 98 Porsche Boxster and now odometer is wrong

After replacing the battery in my 98 Porsche Boxster, the odometer read 999,999 km. I figured out how to change it back to miles, but it is still wrong and now shows 599,999!
I recently purchased the car and the miles said about 58,000 at the time of purchase.
How can I can correct the miles?

The same thing happened to me after I changed the battery. Have not fixed yet but am taking it to a shop to see if they can fix it.

I had the same problem and was about to take the car to the dealership tomorrow, but I decided to try disconnecting the battery and see if it would reset itself. When I reconnected the battery the odometer mileage went back to where it was before I changed the battery. It worked!

Maybe it will work for you. Good luck!

How do I charge my battery on a 2000 boxster porsche

The battery is located in the front trunk of the car, under a cover just below the middle of the windshield. Either remove the battery or disconnect the positive (Red) cable and hook up a battery charger. You can get a battery charger at sears or any auto-parts store. Get one that automatically stops when the battery is fully charged. If you have to charge it after each trip it could be that the battery needs to be replaced or that you need a new alternator.

Sounds like a bad engine temp sensor to me. Also could be a intake or EGR leak causing the 02 problem

I just purchased a 2005 Porsche Boxster with 13000 miles from a Chevy dealer. They supposedly did a basic service before delivering the car. On my way home I noticed a message on the dash that said...

hi,

Try this procedure. Porsche can be hit or miss with reset procedures. Sometime a Porsche scan tool is needed.

1. Enter the vehicle and make sure that all doors are closed.

2. Push the odometer reset button while turning the ignition key on.

3. Continue holding down the odometer reset button for approximately 10 seconds until the "Service Reset" message appears in the information center.

4. Release the odometer reset button and press the reset button on the bottom of the wiper stalk.

5. It may take a few attempts with this procedure.

6. If the light is not reset, then a Porsche compatible scan tool will be required to reset it.

Odometer setting incorrect after battery replacement?

Only the trip odometer should reset to 0.0 after battery replacement. It's unavoidable without using a 9V battery plugged into the lighter socket. The primary odometer certainly should not. Did it?
