36mm is the consensus of opinion, but in reality, it is the socket that 'FITS'! Most socket sets come in metric and imperial, you use that one that is the best fit.
Jack up one side at a time and get a big bar or a strong 2x4, lift the wheel, have somebody lift while you peek at the inside and see if you can see something loose, grab the wheel and shake it left and right, It should tell you something, If, not, try the other side, Something gotta be clinking in there somewhere. You don't need a socket to get the bearing nut off, it is not tight, it is snugged up and then backed off, If it were put on tight, It would overheat in a few miles and smoke you out of the car and weld itself to the spindle/ axle, which ever you have there, most front drive cars don't have front end problems like 2 wheel drive cars, but they do have bearing problems.
