I have a diesel estate estate and recently had the clutch pedal and arm replaced. However, since replacing this it has been really difficult changing gears. Can anyone provide a solution?

The cluth needs further adjusting. IU assume that the clutch grabs very near the floor and grinds when going in reverse. Take it back to whoever did the work and tell them about the problem and ask that they make a further adjustment. When they are done, you should have no grinding in reverse and there should be about 3/4" play at the top of the clutch pedel

good luck

It sounds like it hasn't been setup right, and needs adjusting, there is an allen key bolt on the top of the pedal, try adjusting it here first, if it doesn't cure it then adjusdt it ontop of the gearbox

The Clutch disc and Release Bearing for the TD4-Freelander, were replaced recently. The Pressure Plate was still in a good condition.Gears difficult to engage. Please advise.Tks.John.

Most likely still has air in hydraulic clutch slave system. Many transmisions will have dificulty shifting if clutch doesn't full disengage. If air is in system it won't allow full disengage thus difficulty in shifting even possible grinding gears

Take it back! Is it cable or hydrolic? Assume also thrust bearing changed? U need to have someone push clutch while u have ur head by the clutch arm to see if there is any movement.if not its cable or hydalic is slave/master cylinder.if the fork moves its gearbox out again :(

If the clutch is correctly adjusted, it will start to engage when releasing the clutch pedal at 1 in. off of the floor. When in Heavy traffic shift trans to neutral while at a stop, take your foot off of the clutch pedal to avoid overheating the release bearing

98 jetta wolfsburg. Clip that hold cable to arm broke. When replacing the clip I had to jack up the clutch arm with a bottle jack to hook up the cable. The cable will not let the arm drop down where it...

It has a plastic Ratchet style gear at the pedal end of the cable that has to be released. This gear automatically adjust the clutch when the pedal is pressed. Never put a jack against a clutch arm. You will probably have to disengage the cable to reset the ratchet gear. Don't strip the teeth on the gear

Just bought a passat estate . when i first start off when the engine and box is cold know problems .but when the engine and gearbox are hot i find it hard to find reverse gear and a bit tight going thought...

Dose the clutch pedal drive in gear 1" from the floor OR 1"" from the top when you let it out. if its drives when almost out and there is a vibration on the pedal then the clutch needs replacing and it has nothing to do with the gear box or oil
But the gearbox has to come out before you put a new complete clutch in

Unable to get gears in my vw golf estate it is a 00 1.9tdi

The most common cause is something called "clutch drag", a condition where the clutch does not fully release and continues to (partially) transfer power to the transmission. If you're suffering from clutch drag, you will find that gears engage easily when the engine is off, but you have trouble engaging it when the engine is running. You may also find that if you start the engine while it is in gear, a small amount of "shudder" is felt even while the clutch is depressed.

It could be as simple as too much clutch play. If I recall golfs have a cable clutch, so adjustment is done under the hood where the cable connects to the clutch arm on the bell housing. On hydraulic setups it is adjusted on the clutch pedal itself.

It is also possible that the splines on which the clutch plate rides are worn, causing the clutch plate to "rub" against the pressure plate/fly wheel and not fully release because of that.

I had a similar problem on my Toyota Corolla. Adjusting clutch play improved mattes, but the problem only went way after I had the clutch replaced.

I think it comes down to adjusting your clutch play (on the Corolla the clutch play should be between 7 and 15mm, I expect others to be similar) and if that fails, to have an expert look at it. Replacing a clutch is a fairly invasive (and expensive) operation, on most front wheel drive cars it involves removing the wheels, popping the suspension joints, removing the CV joints and the transmission to get at it, so it is usually a good idea to replace everything while you're at it.
