Where is the bcm program fuse on a 2005 pontiac montana sv6

I need to program keyless remote.

  • jbluther May 11, 2009

No BCM Program fuse is listed in the Owner's Manual. Is the remote programming technique that calls to remove this fuse not correct for the '05 Montana SV6?

The BCM program fuse on a 2005 Montanna SV6 is called something different in the manual. It's called a “Keyless Entry Module” fuse and it is fuse #7. The fuse panel is located on the passenger side on the side of the dash. There is a cover with an indent hole in it to pull the fuse cover off. It's really hard to pull it off and it almost seems like your going to break it when your trying to get if off. Keep pulling, it will come off! On the fuse cover, fuse #7 is labeled " RFA MDLS" which is again different than what is in the manual. I followed the procedure to reprogram my "Key Fob" and within 45secs, I had reprogrammed my key FOB! I was so excited, because, I have been trying locate the BCM fuse for 4 weeks. I think GMC does not want us to know it’s location or name, so you would have to go into a dealership to get your Key Fobs reprogrammed costing about a $100 for a minute of work.

1. Keep the windows open as a safety measure, then,
2. Remove the ignition key from the ignition lock cylinder.
3. Remove the “RFA MDLS” (fuse #7 ,BCM PRGRM fuse, Keyless Entry fuse) from the fuse panel.
4. Close all of the doors.
5. Close the liftgate.
6. Turn the ignition lock cylinder to ACC.
7. Turn the ignition lock cylinder to OFF, and then back to ACC within 1 second.
8. Open and close any vehicle door. A chime will be heard when the system enters the BCM programming/diagnostic mode.
9. Press and hold the transmitter LOCK and UNLOCK buttons simultaneously for 14 seconds.
10. Important
After 7 seconds, a chime may be heard confirming successful programming.
11. Repeat the previous step on each additional transmitter to be programmed.
12. Remove the ignition key from the ignition lock cylinder
13. Install the “RFA MDLS” fuse ( fuse #7 ,BCM PRGRM fuse, Keyless Entry fuse) back into the fuse panel.
14. Press on the key fob functions (EG. Lock, Unlock) to verify correct operation.

I followed these instructions several times and was unable to get the new FOB to work. I have also been told that the programming can ONLY be done by the dealer due to the fact that special equipment is required? How am I to know if I am being feed false information by either you or the dealer? if you could create a YouTube video clearly showing that this works and the steps taken (without cuts to the video) are valid, I would appreciate it.

Response to Solution #2: My wife was programming hers after changing the battery and it would not enter programming mode. I disconnected the battery for a couple of minutes and then re-connected it. Everything worked fine after that. Hope this helps.

For instructions on how to program remotes and keys check website below, I use these and they are usually very accurate. This website does state that on your vehicle, special equipment is needed to program a key fob, as there is no onboard programming for it. However, there are programming instructions for transponder keys.

SOURCE: real right turn signal light - Pontiac Montana SV6 2005

If the 2005 Montana is similar to the 2001 Montana, I have a solution. First you'll need a hexagonal wrench (the 6-sided L-shaped wrench). The tail light assembly is held on by two screws. You'll need the hexagonal wrench to remove them, because a normal screwdriver won't do it. I also had to use a conventional adjustable wrench to get the leverage to turn the hexagonal wrench, because the screws were in there pretty tight. Once you remove the two screws, the whole tail light assembly should come off. Mine required a little force and I had to play with it a bit, but it came off without a lot of work. There will be one set of wires that connects the tail light assembly to the rest of the minivan--try not to damage that set of wires. Once you get the tail light assembly off, you'll have to take apart the assembly that actually holds the lights. No tools should be required. It's held on by four plastic catches. Just undo the catches (easier said than done, but still not too tough) and it comes apart. Then you can pop out the old light and pop in the new light. Then re-assemble. For me, it went back together much easier than it came apart.

SOURCE: 2005 Pontiac SV6 Montana key fob unlocks doors but will not lock

For the sliding doors you need to clean the contacts, there are 6 or 8 on both sides, just wipe them clean as they are probably covered in oil/grease/grime.

How do i program a keyless entry remote on an 05 pontiac montana

Hello, this can only be done with a GM tech 2 scan tool.

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Use the scan tool in order to access programming: Vehicle Control System/Computer Integrating System/Module Setup/BCM/Program Key Fobs.
  3. Press the START soft key on the scan tool.
  4. Press and hold the LOCK button and the UNLOCK button simultaneously on one transmitter. After a delay of 5-10 seconds, the scan tool will indicate that the transmitter is programmed.
  5. Repeat the previous step in order to program up to 4 transmitters.
  6. Remove the scan tool.
  7. Operate the transmitter functions in order to verify correct system operation.

Is it possible to program a new keyless remote without a dealer? Where is the cheapest place to purchase them. I asked a dealer locally, and the cost to purchase the remote was ridiculous!

Cheapest place I find is the Salvage Yard for only $5.00. The bad news is that to program the new remote, you need a tech2 scanner to set that up. Most Transmission shop has a Tech2 scanner now and i am sure you can get them to help you program the new remote for a much better price then the Dealer.
The scan tool is necessary to enter the programming mode on the newer vehicles. There just isn't any other way to do it. Your's being the first year, you may get lucky that you can reprogram it with this instruction which is the 2005 Montana's reprogram.

IMPORTANT: Before entering programming mode, have in possession all of the remotes you will be useing on the vehicle. Once you program the remote. all previous remotes that were programmed will be erased from memory. The other remotes will not be functional until you program the them again.

1. Remove the key from the ignition.

2. Remove the "BCM PRGRM" fuse from the fuse panel. Use the legend on the fuse panel to properly locate the "BCM PRGRM" fuse. Fuse panel is accessed by opening the front passenger door.

3. Close all of the doors.

4. Close the liftgate.

5. Insert the key into the ignition, and turn to the ACC position.

6. Turn the key to OFF and then back to ACC within 1 second.

7. Open and close any vehicle door. A chime will be heard
when the system enters into programming mode.

8. Press and hold the remote LOCK and UNLOCK buttons
simultaneously for 14 seconds.

IMPORTANT: After 7 seconds, a chime may be heard confirming successful synchronization. It is necessary to wait
approximately 14 seconds for a second chime that will confirm successful programming.

9. Repeat step 8 now for each additional remotes to be
programmed including any existing remotes.

10. Remove key from ignition.

11. Install the "BCM PRGRM" fuse back into the fuse panel and test remote(s).

Good luck and thank you for using FIxya.
