Another question. I put too much oil in the car, then drained the oil to an acceptable level. Did I cause permanent engine damage by doing this, or is it a nonissue? The engine is 2.8L and fuel-injected.
It depends on how much oil and how long the engine ran if any.
If you put in 2 quarts too much but did not start the engine, no worries.
if you put in 2 quarts too much and drove it for 50 miles, you could have damaged some seals and they may start leaking. Odds are you did not damage anything internally.

A 90
Buick Regal Oil filler cap unscrews all the way out and does not
"half-twist". It's just stuck. You may want to buy a replacement (about
$4) before applying more force or tools to it, just in case it's
brittle.

Sounds like you might have an oxygen sensor problem. Your catalytic converter(s) maybe defective or dirty. That in turn can dirty up the oxygen sensor. A defective oxygen sensor will send faulty info to the computer, interpreting the fumes as cold (even when the engine warms up). That causes the computer to adjust the fuel mixture to very rich, giving you poor gas mileage and the fuel smell. Hope it helps.

Your radiator is connected to the transmisiom to cool the transmission. the tank in the radiator has ruptured and transferring fluid to where it should not be. solution replace radiator. This will transfer trans fluid to cooling system and vice versa. I can not see the trans oil ending up in the engine oil sump for any reason?

Is there a way you would know if there was engine damage? The car occasionally emits blue smoke from the tailpipe.
